Burma: public commemoration of the 1988 uprising This Thursday, activists mark the 25th anniversary of the 1988 uprising against the military junta, which launched the pro-democracy movement and was bloodily cracked down. Thousands of protesters were killed at that time by military forces, many were exiled.
