The cash is from the second round of the Scottish Government''s Waters fund, aimed at helping developers seize a greater share of the international marine energy market. Scotrenewables Tidal Power Ltd is among the five firms to share the £7.9 million of funding, with a £1.2 million grant towards constructing a floating tidal turbine. Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon viewed the turbine prototype in Kirkwall as part of the summer cabinet engagements in Orkney this week.The other companies to be given funding are AlbaTERN, AWS Ocean Energy, Nautricity and Oceanflow Development.
