There are amazing Mayan Ruins close to the Port of Costa Maya for cruise ship passenger excursions. We took 3 of the most popular offered, the first was Dzibanche set in the lush green Mayan jungle. These are relatively new sites, excavated temples and pyramids are fantastic, especially without huge crowed milling around. It's easy walking around the pathways, insects were minimal during our visit which was a warm and cloudy day, so you might think mosquitoes were a bother but that was not the case. Tour guides are professional and knowledgeable on all things Mayan. Filming at Mayan Ruins with consumer video cameras requires a permit (around 50 pesos) none required for still cameras. Prosumer cameras such as the Sony HDR AX2000 and tripods, mono-pods requires a government permit. Thank you to Port of Costa Maya and Verena in acquiring our permits.
