Ofsted, the Office for Standards in Education, has revealed a range of concerns about special educational needs in a new review looking at how the current system is serving children and young people. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Review has found that while one in five pupils in England are identified as having special educational needs, in some cases these pupils are in fact underachieving simply because they need better overall teaching. Her Majesty's Chief Inspector, Christine Gilbert, says while there is some excellent support and investment in SEN resources there needed to be a shift in direction.
