In this activity, an expert in iron overload discusses the differences between hereditary and transfusional hemochromatosis, and evaluates the role of iron chelation in the management of the latter, including both single-agent and combination approaches. New data on the ability of chelators to reduce cardiac iron burden in patients with transfusional iron overload are also discussed.
