Words cannot express how deeply I was moved by the kindness and spirit of the lovely people there who live under one of the most oppressive regimes in the world that has kept them so very poor. They dream of democracy and freedom and for a better future. I promised I would do what I could to help in what little way I can. I met group of people on their way to a secret meeting in Rangoon to fight for freedom and democracy. Before they got off the bus one man turned to me, smiled and said, "Change is coming!" The people of Burma look to the United States, to Obama and to us to end their suffering. The sanctions have just made everything worse and impoverished them even more.
