in the 30 year, ongoing, Nurses Health Study. They found that women who were obese at middle age were 79% more likely to be unhealthy later in life.
From Australia - Marijuana use can put one at risk for psychosis, according to a report published in the journal PLoS Medicine. Researchers reviewed several studies connecting marijuana to psychotic disorders. While the link was tenuous, results showed that marijuana users had an increased risk of psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia. As a result, researchers added the drug to the Global Burden of Disease Project along with other controllable risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, obesity and alcohol use.
And finally, from the UK - According to a report published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, children with working mothers may be less healthy than children whose mothers stay at home. Researchers studied over 12, 000 schoolchildren and their families, adjusting for factors such as income, age, and ethnic differences. Results showed that children with working mothers were likely to eat and drink more sweets and also watched more TV than children with stay-at-home moms.
