compelling new book called Crazy for the Storm. In 1979, Ollestad – just 11 years old – survived a small plane crash that killed his father, his father’s girlfriend and the pilot. Stranded nearly 9,000 feet up on an icy, steep mountain Ollestad made his way down to safety and 30 years later he looks back on that event and the life he had with his adventure-loving father.
Barefoot Ted is a leading proponent of minimalist running and one of the wild characters that populate Christopher MacDougall’s best selling new book Born to Run.
Our talk with Diego Gonzalez Jovan is a follow up to the untimely death of Rob Gauntlett, National Geographic Adventure magazine’s Adventurer of the year for 2008. Jovan was a former adventure buddy of Gauntlett’s. When he came across our Adventure Edge Radio interview with Gauntlett – the last before he died – he got in touch with us, wanting to share some stories. Diego Gonzalez Jovan talks about Gauntlett and about his own inspiring adventurers, one of which has just begun.
