A fines de la década de los 40, dentro de la cinematografía mexicana se hizo constante la incursión de bailes, ritmos, y artistas que eran propios de los centros nocturnos y de los teatros. Rumba, Salsa, Cha-cha-cha, y otros géneros más, desfilaron por las cintas nacionales, de la mano de grandes bailarinas, y números bien montados; todo lo cual generaría ese sub género fílmico que ahora conocemos cono cine de rumberas. Pero sin duda, los ritmos tahitianos impactaron de forma especial al público, no tanto por la música en sí misma, sino por su figura emblema: la escultural Yolanda Montes, mejor conocida como "Tongolele"; quien con su figura perfecta, sus violentos pero sensuales meneos de cadera, y sus movimientos casi felinos, sedujo a miles de mexicanos, convirtiéndose en todo un icono del baile en nuestro país. Tongolele interactuó con personalidades de la época, como Germán Valdez "Tin-Tan", por ejemplo, en películas como "El rey del barrio", "Mátenme porque me muero", o "Chucho el remendado"; y años después, ya en otra etapa cinematográfica en México, participó en cintas como "Las fabulosas del reventón", o "Las noches del Blanquita"; pero de acuerdo con la propia bailarina, la cinta que recuerda con más cariño es "Han matado a Tongolele", de 1948, donde, según nos confiesa, le tenían que enseñar los diálogos fonéticamente, pues no hablaba prácticamente nada de español. En este 2008, el Festival Internacional de cine Expresión en Corto, en su edición 2008, rendirá homenaje justamente a esta gran figura, una de las estrellas del cine nacional; por este motivo, en CinemaNET estamos honrados de recibir en nuestra cabina tan importante presencia, así que le damos la bienvenida a la inigualable Yolanda Montes "Tongolele".
