Cynergy won the finals of the National PhizzPop Design Challenge. This event brought together the best design agencies in the world. Cynergy won the prestigious competition besting over 30 other top-tier design agency contenders from around the world. Held at South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW) in Austin, Texas on Monday, March 10th, 2008, Cynergy presented its application known as "ben", a series of inter-connected, cross-platform applications that leverage the power of Microsoft Silverlight, Windows Presentation Foundation, Live Services, Twitter and VoIP technologies. "ben", named for Benjamin Franklin, captivated the excitement of the crowd of over 500 attendees with a dizzying array of features culminating as the Cynergy team placed a call to Barack Obama from their Silverlight Facebook application using VoIP technology and left a message "Hello from SXSW" on the Obama campaign's answering machine. Starz Entertainment, the providers of premium TV channels like Starz and Encore and Vongo downloadable movies has built their entire media infrastructure around Windows Media.  Stephen Smith, Director of Media System Integration walks us through the entire workflow and architecture of the system that they built.  This is a 3-part series, first showing the hardware, then the architecture, then the software that they built. In this final episode, Stephen walks Michael Scherotter through the WPF application that Starz built to control the pipeline of media jobs that are each instances of Windows Workflow Foundation workflows.  WPF has allowed Starz to craft a highly skinnable and adaptable user interface.  One of the most interesting applications of this digital media architecture and workflow has been the indexing of the spoken content of their entire catalog using SQL Server database and exposing that index via search through Interactive Media Manager (IMM).  Stephen explains that process at 20:36 in the interview.  That step has enable users of this system at Starz to search their entire 200 Terabyte SAN for specific instances of spoken words directly from IMM. The Microsoft Development Center in Copenhagen (MDCC) recently held it's second TechFest. Each year (this is year two of TechcFest) the good folks at MDCC put on a show where local (Denmark and other northern European countries) innovators show off their wares.
