Friday, November 20, 2009 by Dr. Paul Chappell "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation." 2 Corinthians 5:16-18 Every breath you are given is a gift from God. Science has long debated the origins of human life. Some scientists point to nature as an example of the evolution of our planet, while other scientists point to nature as obvious proof of a divine Being, a supreme Creator. One evolutionist who spent years protesting the idea of a Creator was Jean-Paul Sartre. But just before Sartre died, he confided in a friend about his true feelings regarding the matter. He stated: "I do not feel that I am the product of chance, a speck of dust in the universe, but someone who was expected, prepared, prefigured. In short, a being whom only a Creator could put here; and this idea of a creating hand refers to God." Sartre realized that life was a gift from God, and that God had created the world and had breathed life into man. Earth wasn't a result of millions of years of evolution, but was a result of God's perfect design. Sometimes we can forget that our life has been divinely created. Everyone from Adam to the most recent newborn have been formed by God Almighty. Often we can take for granted the gift of life God has given each of us. For example, what was your first thought this morning? Did you thank God for another day to be alive, another breath to breathe, and another chance to serve Him? Or did you think of how late you were, all the things needing to be done, or of work? It seems as if we are always on the go. Waking up, getting ready, taking the kids to school, completing tasks at work, picking the kids up, taking them to sports practice, going shopping, making dinner, watching a sporting event, spending time with our family, tucking the kids into bed, and then crashing ourselves. Life can seem like one continuous "to-do list" at times. Yet God desires that we would step back from the everyday routine of life, and thank Him for the life we have been given. Every day people pass on from this life and forever end their time on earth. Yet God has given us breath and strength to live another day. He has given us life. Thank God for giving you another day to serve Him. Thank Him for giving you the strength to get out of bed this morning. Thank God for the breath you breathe, and for His gracious mercies in your life. Also, don't waste the life God has given you to live; don't take for granted the time God has given you on earth. Keep focused on His plan for you (to point others to Him) and determine that no matter what you do today, you'll make good use of the life God's given you. Glorify God today with the life He has given you. Jerry Grieser - The final step in getting our mind to agree with our spirit is "Begin to Speak and Act Accordingly," or as Paul stated in Ephesians 4:24, "Put on the new self." If we are to put on this new self we must discover who this new self is and what he/she looks like. The only way we can see an image of this new self is through the mirror of God's Word.
