People writing on the Net tell me that I can build a windmill. "Hey, man," they were saying to me, "building a windmill is not as hard as you might think. OK, so there are a couple of nibbly bits, but really just try some stuff out and see what works." If you've been around the block a few times, you know that there are two kinds of "not as hard as you might think." There is the really, truly not as hard as you might think kind of not hard, and then there is the not-hard-if-you-have-six-elbows-are-an-astrophysicist-and-have-the-upper-body-strength-of-the-Hulk kind of not hard. I'm a pretty good test for which kind of not hard we're talking about here, because I am neither the Hulk nor an astrophysicist and I have the hand-eye coordination of a blind skink. So this morning I took all of five minutes, gathered what materials I had at hand, took a quick gander at Kevin Harris' account of windmill building, recruited my 2nd-grade son for help and jumped right in. 38 minutes later, with no experience, no measurements and just a pile of cardboard, did we have a working windmill? Yes, we did. If we can do it, so can you. The Skamania County prosecutor is asking a judge to throw a wind farm challenge out of court. Earlier, a citizens group filed suit against the county to stop a proposed wind farm near the Columbia Gorge. This is the third wind project to run into opposition in the Northwest recently, despite public votes in favor of more renewable energy. Correspondent Tom Banse reports.

I sailed into Sydney harbor from the 18th century aboard the HMS Bounty. After hanging around Sydney-side, I mounted my steed pedaling the long haul north on endless roads under a big sky. I rolled through scrub and savannah, swerving around dead roos sleeping on the road side. After neglecting to heed the warning sign, I was forced to run for my life, pursued by a bloodthirsty pack of koalas. Onwards, I crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, zipped past Townsville, explored the bush around Cardwell and finally reached Cairns. But stayed beyond up at trinity Beach. Just in time for Show Day. Then I hopped aboard the big silver bird, rounding the planet to Europe. I was dropped from 100 meters into Rheinland, Germany. South to cut the corner of Switzerland, then lugging up the arduous climd to Col de Bussang. Then through rainy pre-Sarko France and post-Manneken Pis Belgium. Finally The Netherlands - land of stroopwafel, droop and vla. Plus, there s a celebtrity-related surprise just bound to elicit a yawn. The musical accompaniment is Power and the Passion by Midnight OIl and Triggers by April March.
