Recovering from Mistakes in FreeMind Mindmaps from Advanced Medical Support Systems on Vimeo. Part of the AMSS FreeMind (Mindmapping Software) Tutorial Screencast series, this screencast explains some ways to recover from mistakes you've made in your mindmaps. Script: Recovering from Mistakes. Sometimes when you are working with a file, you'll make changes and then want to go back to an earlier version, before those changes. One of the things you should definitely be doing, is creating backups, not just of your mindmaps, but all of your files. Even the ones you think might not be so important, at a later time you could find yourself wishing you had them. You can create backups right from the file system, so you have to know how to copy files with your operating system. There are also a number of programs and services that will automate your backups for you. If you don't have a backup and restore plan, it's very beneficial to start looking into one. Another thing you might want to consider is a revision control system. Programmers often use these to keep track of changes they make to their programs. However, revision control systems are not restricted to programming code. Very often you can use them with binary files, images, databases and so on. I've found Subversion to be an excellent tool for myself. CVS and Git are two other popular revision control systems. If you get the chance take a look at the Wikipedia articles on them. FreeMind has two built in features that you're likely to find yourself using. Revert, restores your mindmap to the last saved state. While undo and redo go back and forth one change at a time.
