David Cameron recently visited Walworth Academy with Mike Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York. Walworth was one of London's less successful schools before being turned into an academy - but now there's a real sense of possibility and achievement here. Mike Bloomberg has also done some incredible things in New York with education in terms of getting the private sector involved, opening new schools, encouraging small schools and also giving head teachers control and autonomy over their schools - all things that the Conservatives support. David Cameron recently found himself sandwiched between Kevin Spacey and Bob Geldof, as he gave a speech to the Institute of Directors at the Royal Albert Hall. In his speech, David explained that change is possible in politics. We're not just stuck with what we've got, and a different approach and a different government could make things a lot better.

Making Britain more family-friendly

We ask our Armed Forces to take great risks on our behalf, and in return we need to make sure they are paid and looked after appropriately. However, the Government is not looking after their side of the bargain - so Simon Weston and Frederick Forsyth have helped us to set up a Commission to look at the health of the Military Covenant.

My visit to the North West

Conservatives are now in control of more councils than Labour in the North West but there's more to do. My visit to the area last week included stops at Channel M in Manchester, a Police station in Bolton - and Bury Market, where I sampled some delicious black pudding!

I've just been speaking at the National Farmer's Union conference - my first since I became Leader of the Conservative Party. I've got a big farming constituency, and I was born in and live in the countryside - so it's a big interest of mine.

This week I asked Gordon Brown about stop and search, and letting preachers of hate into our country, but I felt his answers were very weak. It demonstrated his inability to answer a question or make a clear decision.
