Yep, Google might be your goal, but it's no easy catch. Just as when you go to a date, web development has its standards, and you better follow them; unless you want to end up like...well, this poor guy.

IE 8: On the Path to Web Standards Compliance - ACID 2 Test Pass CompleteIE 8: On the Path to Web Standards Compliance - ACID 2 Test Pass Complete
from Channel 9: The Videos
December 19, 2007

The IE team has been very hard at work on IE 8 for the past several months and they hit a huge milestone last Friday evening. The IE dev team checked in a bunch of code that included several new features implemented in the core rendering engine that enable IE to pass the ACID 2 test! This is great news for web developers: IE 8 is going to be our most standards compliant browser to date. Passing ACID 2 is really a combined side effect of all the new features that have been developed for IE 8. In this interview, I sit down with IE GM Dean Hachamovitch and Architect Chris Wilson to discuss this milestone and dig into compliance in general, lessons learned from IE 7 and discuss the IE team's ultimate goal of de facto interoperability. Of course, no Channel 9 interview is complete without meeting some of the devs who actually write technology so we take a walk from Dean's office to super developer Alex Mogilevsky's office to discuss what's been done to provide IE with the core rendering features that enable IE 8 to pass the ACID 2 test. We also chat with CSS guru Markus Mielke who was instrumental in identifying and planning the feature set required to pass ACID 2. Tune in! Rob talked me in to it. He wanted to learn about javascript and called me out on the podcast to cover it. Talk about a daunting challenge. To share about javascript, give something practical for listeners, and do it without any visual aids. That's just what we did. This week on the podcast we cover javascript, javascript libraries, the pains of javascript, some practical needs to know, and so much more. Javascript, AJAX, and AHAH technologies and methods are revolutionizing the Internet and the browser; so, it's important to know and utilize. Before we dive into javascript we talk about the high expectations in church media. What are the expectations of viewers of your media? What are the expectations of church leaders in their media people? What has media saturation done to sharing the greatest message ever? Come take a listen.... it's Geeks and God!!! We've talked about CSS. We've said time and time again it's the tool to use for building your websites design. We use it to do all our designs. It's what you need to build sites in drupal or the other top content management systems. In this episode we talk about CSS, what the acronym means, what the different parts are, the box model, and try our darnedest to explain what it does and how you can use it. For some people CSS can create problems. Especailly, when you deal with multiple browsers and some (... IE ...) don't do CSS quite right and are different from version to version. So, if you have questions head over to our forums and ask away. Before we dive into our main topic, we talk about apologetics. Apologetics is the geekiest area of theological study and we not only share some of our experience but give out some resources for others. So, come join us... it's time for Geeks and God.... This week we're all over accessible websites. You might be asking yourself, "Why should I build those extra accessibility features into my church or ministry website?" If you are, we have an answer for you and we dig into the bible for our reason. That's right... biblical support for accessible websites. At the same time, building accessible websites doesn't mean doing much more than following the standards we talked about last week. Using xhtml and css is the first step to building accessible sites. But, before we dive into building websites we talk about using and being apart of internet communities. The good, the bad, and the ugly. There are some great advantages to being part of an online community and yet there are some drawbacks worth taking into careful consideration. So, please join us for a hoot of a time on the Geeks and God podcast.... Episode Links section508.gov Test Your Sites Accessibility WCAG 1.0 Standard Designing With Web Standards (Book)
