The Pittsburgh Steelers won the AFC North last season with a 10-6 record but were eliminated in the playoffs by Jacksonville at home during wildcard weekend. The Steeler defense broke down during the final 5 games of last season by allowing an average of 29 points per game. Oddsmakers have set the projected season win total for the Steelers for the 2008 regular season at 9 wins. When you handicap season win totals you must, I mean must look at the schedule. Schedule: The Steelers have the toughest schedule in the NFL this season. 14 of their 16 opponents had winning records in 2007. Like the rest of the teams in their division the Steelers face the NFC East but must travel to the weakest teams in Washington and Philadelphia. They host both Dallas and the NY Giants. As division winners last season they must face first place San Diego and New England while the other 3 teams in their division wont face them. Two Monday night games are scheduled meaning a short week to prepare when facing Jacksonville and Indianapolis. Running back Willie Parker had a good season rushing for over 1300 yards last season. He suffered a broken leg, which forced the talented runner to miss the last two games of the season. Parker showed no ill effect of the injury during mini camps. The Steelers added depth at the running back position by drafting Rashard Mendenhall in the first round. Hines Wards lead a talented receiving corps and a new addition will be 6-4 Limas Sweed who was drafted in the second round out of Texas. The Steelers added size in their receiving corps and will help them in critical third down plays as well as red zone throws. Heath Miller returns at tight end and his 6-5 height contributed to 7 touchdown receptions last season. The Steelers have talented playmakers on offense. 10 of 11 starters return for the Steelers potent offense from last season. The Steelers will put up plenty of points in 2008. Defense: Pittsburgh returns 10 starters from the #1 total defense from last season. Safety Troy Polamalu was stricken with a knee injury in 2007 that forced the talented safety to miss games. Polamalu could return to his good form with a healthy 2008 and makes a huge impact for the Steelers. I felt Polamalu s health was part of the cause for the Steelers defensive breakdown late last season. They run the 3-4 and have a talented down lineman who can stop the run and set up plays for their linebackers. The defense also does a good job of creating turnovers. And now to my Selection: The Pittsburgh Steelers are loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball. With Mendenhall coming in the draft it sets up 4th quarter situations where the Steelers can run out the clock on the ground with two good backs and will set up play action in the most critical points of the game. I think for this reason the Steelers have a good shot at sweeping the Bengals and Browns again because neither possesses a good defense. The Steelers will go 5-1 in the division this season and we need to find 5 more wins to get to 10. With the NY Giants getting a bit weaker on defense they will go 3-1 against the NFC East this season. They have Houston at home in week 1 which is a winnable game. We just need 1 win against the Colts, Chargers, Patriots, Titans or Jaguars to get to 10. With a really tough schedule this Steeler team will get to 10 wins. This team has 13-3 or 14-2 talent but with this difficult schedule will go 10-6. Play Pittsburgh over 9 wins this season. Play OVER 9 wins for the 2008 season. Following up the news from GamesTM, the UK's Official Xbox Magazine have a few screenshots of Call of Duty 5 in action. From these screenshots we learn that snipers are tied to their foliage vantage points by rope and will dangle down when shot. We also find out that as the battlefield is a little more vicious than before, so you will be able to swim through lakes and swamps. The Japanese enemies will carry Katana swords which they will happily use against you when they get close. You can of course, torch them with a flamethrower if you'd prefer. Below are some of the known details on the game, as reported by popular gaming forum, NeoGAF. Gameplay: -A flamethrower will be available in the game, and is apparently based off of the design and handling of the armament in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This lethal weapon can burn the skin off of your enemies. -The player is able to shoot through cover, "with enough bullets, the player causes enough damage to one of the walls to create a hole big enough to walk through." -The game allows you to swim for the first time in the series, although movement will be severely limited, with your character only capable of walking at half speed. The Main Event will be the UFC Light Heavyweight Title Match as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will defend his title against Forrest Griffin. Rampage has professional record of 28 wins and 6 losses and is making his second title defense. Jackson beat Chuck Lidell at UFC 71 in May of 2007 by TKO in less than 2 minutes to win the title. Rampage voiced confidence in recent interviews about fighting Griffin. The goal for this year s team is the Gold Medal and anything short of it will be a major disappointment. Many of the players and coaches from Team USA gave a 3-year commitment to their national team so one can understand the importance of this trip to Beijing for Olympic competition. The 12-member squad has already been announced and is headed by Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and Dwayne Wade. The team went through 1 day of practice and orientation to prepare for their full training camp that begins on July 21st. Team USA opens play in Group B against the host country China on August 10th in the preliminary stages of the Men s Basketball competition. China s Yao Ming returned to training for the China National Team and reported that the stress fracture on his left foot suffered during the NBA season was 80% healed. Doctor s have told the Houston Rocket center that his injury usually takes a full year to heal and there s a good chance it wont be until February of 2009 when he is 100%. But do to the pressures of playing for his host country Yao will give it a go. Team USA ........
