Kraftwerk, German for "power plant", is a German electronic music band from Düsseldorf. The Kraftwerk sound combines a driving rhythm section with catchy, synthesized melodies and harmony; mainly following a classical style of arrangement accompanied by simple lyrics which are sometimes sung through a vocoder or generated by computer speech software. The Moog synthesizer is heavily present in the majority of the group's works, adding to their signature sound creations. In the mid to late 1970s and the early 1980s, the Kraftwerk sound was revolutionary for its time, and it has had a lasting impact across nearly all genres of modern popular music "Computer World" is a concept album created by Kraftwerk and released in 1981. It deals with the themes of the rise of computers within society. Musically the album is stronger than ever - the sound is further refined to pure electronics and vocals, and the sequencing and electronic percussion reach new sonic and rhythmic heights - a real "funkiness" is on display with tracks such as "Numbers" that would go on to influence early elements of hip hop music in the USA.
