The Rest of Now is the title of the Manifesta 7-exhibition in Bolzano/Bozen, Italy. The Rest of Now, curated by the Raqs Media Collective, is set in the disused Alumix aluminium factory. In the first part of our coverage of Manifesta 7 s The Rest of Now we have a look at works by Harold de Bree, M-City, Dayanita Singh, Zilvinas Kempinas, Nikolaus Hirsch Michael Müller, Candida TV, and Latifa Echakhch. The Raqs Media Collective is a group of three media pracitioners: Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula and Shuddhabrata Sengupta. Before co-curating Manifesta 7, Raqs Media Collective has presented work at major international shows such as Documenta and Venice Biennale. They live and work in Delhi, based at Sarai, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, an initiative they co-founded in 2000. The Russian artist group AES+F was one of the artists representing Russia at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007 with the video installation Last Riot . As early as 2005, Ruzicska Gallery in Salzburg, Austria, realized a solo show with AES+F. Now, Ruzicska presents the whole cycle of works Last Riot 2 in the spaces of the Max Gandolph Bibliothek in Salzburg: the video, 25 Collages, three Sculptures and 11 sketches on paper. There is also a monumental sculpture on display in front of Ruzicska s gallery in Faistauergasse (see upcoming video of the opening of the exhibition Fiat Lux at the gallery). AES+F are Tatiana Arzamasova, Lev Evzovitch, Evgeny Svyatsky, and Vladimir Fridkes. Manifesta, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, is one of the most important European biennials. It takes place every two years in different cities. For the seventh edition of Manifesta, a whole region was chosen: Trentino – South Tyrol, Italy. The area has been selected for its historical heritage and culture, and not least for its striking examples of industrial archaeology buildings. One of Manifesta 7 s venues is Fortezza / Franzensfeste. The impressive fortress was built in the 1830s by the Habsburgian Empire in order to defend the north/south passage through the Dolomite mountain region (now one of Europe s most important travel routes) from two sides. The exhibition at Fortezza, entitled Scenarios , has been curated by Adam Budak, Anselm Franke / Hila Peleg, and Raqs Media Collective. Scenarios focuses on sound and voice: Ten writers were invited to respond with texts to the enigma of the fortress, These texts have been translated into Italian, German and English, interpreted by a theatre director, spoken by actors and acoustically situated within listening stations designed by a sound artist. The listening stations have been sited at different locations within the grounds and buildings of Fortezza / Franzensfeste. Thus the fortress speaks these texts to the visitor. (excerpt from the PR). Just in time for the Salzburg Festival 2008, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Salzburg opened an exhibition with a new cycle of works by German artist Anselm Kiefer. The show, named after the once popoular German Advent and Christmas carol Maria durch ein Dornwald ging (Maria walks amid the Thorn), presents around 30 pictures and a sculpture. Most of the works were made in 2007/2008. Some of the works on display were started in the 1970s and completed over the past months with the sedimenting working method that is so typical for Anselm Kiefer. A catalogue including an interview with Anselm Kiefer by Klaus Dermutz will accompany the exhibition. Luchezar Boyadjiev (born in 1957 in Sofia, Bulgaria) lives and works in Sofia. His contribution to SITE Santa Fe Seventh International Biennial Lucky Number Seven, is entitled Off-SITE(s). The purpose of Off-SITE(s) is to connect Lucky Number Seven with the City of Santa Fe. Off-SITE(s) consists of three parts: 77 $10 bills, on display in the SITE Santa Fe building; a trained group of young people (the Art Squad) who travel to different cultural institutions in Santa Fe and speak to visitors about subjects ranging from contemporary art to the environment; and Hot-Spot boards at off-site locations such as the Georgia O Keeffe Museum. The Hot-Spot boards are meant to be used by the visitors for feedback on the works in the Biennial and the issues raised by Luchezar Boyadjiev. In this video we have a look at the board at the Georgia O Keeffe Museum a week after the opening of the Biennial. Santa Fe, July 6, 2008. Several people have suggested that I periodically re-release older Izzy Videos from the archives. It makes sense to me because when I m so focused on creating new content for the premium subscribers, sometimes I struggle to find the time to put out more than one free show per month. I don t want to neglect viewers who only subscribe to my free feed, so releasing samples from the archives makes a lot of sense to me. About Izzy Video 22 Izzy Video 22 was a fun show for me. I believe it was the first time I demonstrated three-point lighting. It might have been one of the first shows in which I included outtakes. It s sort of nostalgic for me to watch this episode because it s from two and a half years ago. Two and a half years! I can t believe so much time has gone by. Much has changed since then. Glimpster, LLC has become Izzy Video, LLC. Episode 22 was shot with my old Canon GL2 camera (I still have it, but it s not getting much use ever since I switched to HD). Also in this video, you ll see my old intro. It was a little too long, but still fun. The music, the tone of the video, is a lot more playful than my current videos. Hmm, have I really become that serious? ;-) Anyway, it s with great pleasure that I re-release this archived tutorial, Izzy Video 22 - Three Point Lighting.

Since its inception, ART Santa Fe provides Project Spaces for alternative work. This year, eight non-profit institutions and galleries host Project Spaces. One of them is the Santa Fe Art Institute, which sponsored Gradient Ghosts I , a wall installation and video by the artist collective Keep Adding. Keep Adding works in the field of multimedia and installation art. The artist group began in La Mesilla, New Mexico in 2001, making graffiti-inspired murals in abandoned buildings. Now the group is working in various kinds of media. I met with the two group members Brian Bixby and Noah MacDonald at Art Santa Fe. In this episode they talk about the beginnings of Keep Adding and their collaborative process. Brian lives and works in Santa Fe, Noah recently moved to Marfa. Art Santa Fe, July 11, 2008.
