Local restaurant El Oriental de Cuba in Jamaica Plain was destroyed by a firebomb this week. Boston City Councillor John Tobin visited the scene and filed this video report: Watch QuickTime Video "That's our job as elected officials to get this resuarant open as soon as possibnle to get the tenants back in their apartments and build this place up better than ever. We've also offered to help find other restuarant jobs if that's what they desire. Let the Boston Police and Fire departments conduct their investigations and hope that the person or persons responsible for this outrageous act in our community are found and brought to justice." Urban Exploration [1]

from Bob Dunn's Brazos Riverblog - Video on June 30, 2005

All over the country, owners of old, damaged structures fade away, to leave their buildings to the whims of street people, wildlife and urban explorers. But as this Quicktime video shows poking around where you don’t belong may have consequences. It happened on day 6 of the Amazing Videoblogging Week 2005, which happens to fall on April 1 this year.

Happy Birthday, Mom! [3]

Happy Birthday, Mom! [3]

from Bob Dunn's Brazos Riverblog - Video on June 30, 2005

As karmagrrl and Joel Carner have noted, it’s Vincent Van Gogh’s birthday today. However, it’s also my mom’s – and this video is dedicated to that occasion. (And mom, here’s the Windows Media version.) In case you’re wondering, mom, I’ve been learning from a terrific group of what is known as videobloggers – a pack of cutting-edge artists creating not only video for the Internet, but an entire new media order. In short, they’re busy standing the world of media on its head. The collection of videos below is part of an exercise known as VideobloggingWeek2005. But don’t let that put you off. This is your day. Double-click on the picture, check out your movie and have a good time today, huh?

One Moisty Morning [3]

One Moisty Morning [3]

from Bob Dunn's Brazos Riverblog - Video on June 29, 2005
Duration: 0
All I wanted from this video was to capture a minute of morning birdsong and then, beat it back inside to the kitchen for that first cup of coffee. As the days go by in this 2005 Week of Vlogging, coffee is taking on an even more crucial role than normal. Day 4, leaving me wondering whether it’s really video “flogging.” Stop it. Stop it some more.

Land of the Noon Day Sun

Land of the Noon Day Sun

from Southern Video Blog on April 05, 2005
Duration: 304
My seventh vlog for Video Blogging Week 2005 (Late Entry). Nantahala is a Cherokee word that means "Land of the noon day sun". When we got to the river Saturday it was anything but sunny. The weather had deteroiated to a wet snowy mess but we ended up kayaking down the river anyway. We were so cold by the time we got off the river all we could think of was a hot shower and food. This final vlog for Video Blogging Week 2005 didn't turn out as I had planned. My original intentions was to blog from on the river along the way. With it raining and our goal for the day was to just get down the river without freezing, I didn't even bring the camcorder. I did bring my digital still camera along and shot a few pics as we went down the river. I've added additional shots from our trip home which includes my nephew Austin "Snowyaking" in the N.C. mountains and some video from a beautiful waterfall in Tennessee called Bald River Falls. Hope you enjoy!! Click on the picture below to view the video. Quicktime Version

Videoblogging Week Day 6

Videoblogging Week Day 6

from Luxomedia on April 03, 2005
Duration: 139
DIY Silkscreen Part 5 on Day 6 (I know, it's confusing). Last night I was designing logos on the computer which I will burn on a screen today and print. Got some cool designs and ideas from Oscar, Doug and Adam. The lo-fi music is by fx10243 which I got on Opsound. BTW, my vids are Creative Commons BY-NC-SA so feel free to remix and use the audio. I am going to post my audio files on Opsound at some point. My doggie Dexter had several seizures last night. He has epilepsy. He takes Phenobarbitol twice a day and Potassium Bromide, which helps alot but doesn't cure him completely. I wish a cure could be found. He is resting today and says hello.

Ending the Week with a Ham

Ending the Week with a Ham

from Bob Dunn's Brazos Riverblog on April 03, 2005
Duration: 139
It's the end of a tough (for me) but enjoyable experiment in producing daily web video amidst the chaos of daily life here at what we wryly refer to as the One-Acre Ranch. And after a hard week of work, it's always good to eat. Thus, this video is all about smoking a ham. The particulars: We used a 7-pound, bone-in partially cooked ham - the kind you sometimes find on sale at the grocery, then come home and realize the reason it was so cheap is that it's not fully cooked yet. Instead of heating it in the oven, why not fire up some pecan wood and put it in the smoker? Before cooking, the ham should sit out of the refridgerator for about an hour. Score the flat face of the ham in both directions with a knife - about 1/4-inch deep. Rub it all over with cracked pepper and cracked mustard seed or dry mustard. To reach the proper internal temperature of 140 degrees (F), I smoked the ham for about 3 hours. During the last 20 minutes I applied a tasty marinade of: 1/2 cup Jim Beam (or other fine) whiskey 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup pancake syrup 1/4 cup dijon mustard Whip the ingredients together in a small bowl and refridgerate while the ham is smoking. The marinade seeps into the meat and creates a glaze on the outside. The results are delicious.
