The FWT is officially underway with the kick off event in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. We went to meet a bunch of high profile skiers and snowboarders in the Lake Tahoe area this falls as they're preparing for the upcoming season 2010 of the Freeride World Tour. First on our list is JT Holmes, Squaw Valley local and world class skier / BASE jumper. We follow JT as he climbs up the Tram Face in Squaw Valley as part of his training routine. JT reflects over the past season of the Freeride World Tour, his crash during the competition in Squaw Valley, and his redemption a few weeks later on the legendary Bec des Rosses for the Nissan Xtreme Verbier 2009. Nissan team snowboarder G raldine Fasnacht won the 2009 Nissan Xtreme Verbier with this amazing and daring run down the prestigious Bec des Rosses face. This amazing result propelled her to 3rd in the overall 2009 Free ride World Tour rankings - an amazing achievement considering her 2009 season was plagued with injuries preventing her from riding two of the four events in Sochi, Russia or Squaw Valley, USA.. 0-29 March Since its start in 1996 the Xtreme has been considered the most prestigious event in the freeride world. For the grande finale of the Freeride World Tour the elite of freeride will tackle the mythical Bec des Rosses, a 500m north face, in places some 55 degrees sheer slopes. With steep and narrow couloirs, high rock cliffs, changing snow and terrain, it asks the riders to be highly skilled in top physical condition, thorough mountain experience. Only the top ranked riders in the Freeride World Ranking will qualify for the Nissan Xtreme - Verbier 2009. Acid Burn Productions Presents - VERBIER 08 The Super 8mm Film from Verbier, Switzerland has finally been processed, transferred, and edited. Freebord flew the entire company out to Verbier for the O’Neill Extreme back at the end of March for 7 days of incredible snowboarding and freebording. We met up with riders from all over Europe to ride and get wasted everyday, and documented most of the fun on a 1974 Minolta XL-400 Super8 camera using Ektachrome 64t and Black & White Film. We flew into Zurich, Switzerland and drove across the country to Verbier in a 70’s VW bus. When we arrived we got hooked up with a phat condo minutes from the main gondola to the top of the 4 Vallees mountains. Everyday we rode on free passes and then freeborded down the 8 mile mountain pass through town. Along the way we got chased by the Swiss Police for riding the highway (however they had trouble keeping up with us around the turns), tripping spectators out as we bombed passed them with spins and drawn out slides. Definitely more Verbier videos to come as soon as we get to editing the rest of the footage.
