Tim Barrus: Unnecessary Trouble

Tim Barrus: Unnecessary Trouble

from Mental Health Matters on March 06, 2009
Duration: 235
http://le-too.blogspot.com Unnecessary Troubleby Tim BarrusI recognize in thieves, traitors and murderers, in the ruthless and the cunning, a deep beauty - a sunken beauty. -- Jean Genet I knew immediately he would be trouble. You could almost touch it. Moths. Flames. I am still unsure about which one he is and which one I am. You take it easy You have your reasons Sometimes it eats you inside It feels like treason He didn't have a portfolio. "I don't have a portfolio," he said. "You need a portfolio so I can take a look at what kind of art you do. Maybe you would fit in here. Maybe not." The portfolio I make them submit is one of my stupid little rules. The reality is that sometimes their portfolios suck. So why do I require it. If I didn't, I would be accused of just taking any boy who comes along into Cinematheque. I can be subjective up to a point, and then I have to cover up reality with my facade. "I make light," he said. I believed it. I make light is code for I do light shows. It's hard to put a light show into a portfolio but video and photography help. "I haven't made a light show in a while." "How's that," I asked. "I'm wanted for questioning." I'm wanted for questioning is or can be code, too. People who are wanted for questioning by the authorities, whoever the authorities might be, can also just as easily be people who are wanted for crimes as well. I'm wanted for questioning is usually a subjective facade for I didn't mean to do it. Only he did. Mean to do it. There was no question about that. He said he meant to do it and he did do it. I can't tell you his name because I took him in. I assume he's still wanted, and not for questioning. It's risky taking in boys who are wanted. The authorities might want them but no one else does. Life is simply risk. If you breathe at all, you're risking something. I have heard a few variations of his story. Let us call him le Criminel. He was living in another city and had been hustling on the street. A car pulls over, stops; the window goes down. This is code for let's fuck. The boy walks over to the window and asks you if you want to have a good time. This is code for you can suck my cock and it will cost you a set price or you can fuck me in the ass but that will be more money. Try to get the money before (not after) they fuck you in the ass because if you don't they might really fuck you in the ass. You give it right back Then they just can't take it You mind your business Whats yours, they have to wreck it The hypocrits don't, don't like the bed they lay in Come out fighting, you know you're always going to win This was not le Criminel's first mistake. His first mistake was getting in the car. His next mistake was allowing himself to be tied up in the "playroom." I like the word "playroom" and wish more people used that word because maybe there would be more play than torture in them. Most torture scenes are consensual. I tell the boys I work with to put the contracts in writing. You agree to do this, and I agree to do that. The safe word will be... At which time the scene ends. Tricks are usually amused the boy wants to put it in writing. Nine times out of ten, this is not problematic. But it can be. Le Criminal was tied up and tortured. He was fucked in the ass and left tied up for another twenty-four hours. By about hour two you begin wondering if you will make it out alive. Experienced tricks know all the right knots. They're good at bondage. They respect the safe word. People who get off on really hurting (as in real life versus play) you don't tend to be into actual bondage. They're simply into hurting you and their knots can suck. You can get out of them but it's work. The hard part is when you aren't really sure where the trick is (often he's simply at work) or if you have time to get dressed and you might not know where your clothes are anyway. It's pretty common for the bottom in any real torture scene (when the top laughs after you've said the safe word is not a good sign) to escape outside naked where the rest of the community is not all that enthused to see him. Someone usually calls the police and usually they arrive. As far as the police can be concerned, you can be the one perceived as breaking the law because 1.) you're a whore, and 2.) you've been running around the neighborhood naked. "I only did it so I could do my art." How many times a day do I hear this. There can be a lot of truth to it. Making a living as an artist can be easier said than done. Making a living as a whore can be easier said than done as well. Most artists know this: sex sells. Most whores found nude with rope burns are trotted off to jail but eventually they do find their way home. Where they nurse their wounds, and most whores understand it's all about risk, and they just get on with their lives as whores and artists. But not this time. Le Criminal went back to the scene of the original crime and set the house on fire. He burned it to the ground. The light from the flames was mesmerizing. They illuminated the midnight sky. There's just no point in causing unnecessary trouble Just make sure you cause trouble when it's necessary There's just no point in causing unnecessary trouble Just make sure you cause trouble when it's necessary You make excuses For their ruthlessness You can't imagine yourself being so careless There is no reason why they want to hurt you Maybe it's envy they know they just can't touch you The hypocrits don't, don't like the bed they lay in So come out fighting, you know you're always going to win He produced a light show on the roof to show me what he could do. He needn't have. But there it was. I took him in. My fingernails are for the most part chewed down to the bloody nubs. His light shows always cause more attention to be paid than I am necessarily comfortable with. I keep telling myself that we are obscure but it's a lie. For a long time, I was really paranoid about who came up our studio stairs. I am always, always wanted for questioning. As I write this, le Criminel is in the basement conjuring his next light show. It's not entirely about the light. He is a skilled electrician because he has to be. We, too, have used those skills to power the lights that grow our weed. Wherein the wires and the weigh machine. Mine is always weighing risk. That is how he burned the trick's house down. It was an electrical fire. Nevertheless suspicious. Revenge is always that. We have taught him how to write up a generic contract. I'll do this and you'll do that. This will be the safe word. And no burning houses to the ground. Now, both of us are wanted for questioning. The studio we are currently in is so off the beaten path that it's intimidating (the look of abandonment helps keep the curious away) and we don't get visitors. I'm glad we moved. There's just no point in causing unnecessary trouble Just make sure you cause trouble when it's necessary There's just no point in causing unnecessary trouble Just make sure you cause trouble when it's necessary A light show in the basement is less risk than a light show on the roof. Some art was meant to not be seen. I recognize in light, in the ruthless and the cunning use of it, a deep and sunken beauty. One that is often far too hot to touch. Tim Barrus
