In 1987, Wheel of Fortune was the king of the TV game show world, raking in a nightly audience of 40 million viewers plus every show. Although, when the series began its fifth syndicated season (1987-88), producers thought it was time for a change, a BIG change. Thus began The Big Month of Cash! During this "trial" month, the usual using your cash to buy merchandise was dropped from the game, and contestants played for ACTUAL MONEY!! This sped up the game considerably, making room for four, five, sometimes even six rounds of play. Soon, viewers began to like the new format so much, that the shopping element was never brought back.To add building interest throughout the faster-paced main game, new dollar amounts were added to the wheel. Aside from the normal $1,000 in round one, $2.500 was the top dollar value for round two, $3,500 for round three, and the famous $5,000 space for rounds four and on. During the bonus rounds, five prizes would adorn the set, usually in the range of $30,000-$60,000. One of the more popular prizes was always $25,000 cash (which was then displayed as a giant, green neon sign that was lowered from the rafters above). Other prizes included cars, trips, boats or trailers. Anyhoo, I'm gonna shut da hell up lol. Here is part one of Wheel of Fortune's first all-cash show!! Enjoy, game heads!
