None of the mixes had a really deep beat or dance production, so here s my first ever solo remix as fingertrouble, I took the Theophilus London mix and added some beats and stuff. It s a hybrid of remix and mash, with some crafty loopage from various parts but the african kwaito-inspired beat and teh boom is mine. Also the original song doesn t have an official video, so here s a video I ve made and shot in Africa (Ethiopia and South Africa) a few weeks ago. Also includes some video of the bonkers Sir Victor Uwaifo performing Guitar Boy which where The Very Best got that great guitar sample from! Vampire Weekend is an indie pop band which formed in February 2006 in New York City, New York, United States. The band consists of Ezra Koenig (vocals, guitar), Rostam Batmanglij (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Chris Baio (bass) and Christopher Tomson (drums). Their self-titled debut album was released on January 29, 2008 on XL Recordings to, so far, critical success and the single A-Punk garnering heavy airplay on Alternative radio stations throughout the US. They are quickly garnering comparisons to Paul Simon’s Graceland for the Afro-pop style, as well as to The Kinks, new wave luminaries Haircut 100, and NYC’s The Walkmen. The album itself is also drawing comparisons to The Strokes’ 2001 debut, Is This It, which also broke through at the time for its pop simplicity and ingenuity. Vampire Weekend received much buzz from local blogs throughout 2007 during their rise to a record deal. Rolling Stone placed Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa at number 57 for the top 100 songs of 2007. They also garnered much local buzz in the summer of 2007 with their song Oxford Comma, which gripes about prep grammar, Lil’ Jon, and coal drama. They are currently on their first major tour, covering North America and ending at Coachella 2008 in Indio, California. Their second album “Contra” will be released on January 12, 2010. It contains the single “Cousins” They are self-proclaimed “specialists in the following styles: ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’, ‘Upper West Side Soweto’, ‘Campus’, and ‘Oxford Comma Riddim.’” -Last FM

This is the long-delayed video part of RC: 183 I really really didn t want to post it as two parts and will post a hopefully higher quality single version as soon as it converts/uploads and Vimeo stops being shit (I may have a long wait). I could list a long list of how this has been a nightmare,from broken lights and scrambles to get the only worklight in christendom in the fun environs of Leyton, from Adobe Media Encoder taking 7 hours to create an empty file and the scrabble to get anything out Premiere and it s usual crashes, frequent crashes and comepletely wrong estimated sizes of QuickTime Pro conversions, and now Vimeo is flaking out with it s conversions stopping at 4% even with a Plus account. I think this ll be the first and last video podcast, at least til I have money to get new non-shit hardware and software (6 months-1 year+). Sorry but this doesn t pay costs loads and I haz no money. *shrugs* Also that means no iPod downloadable version, don t have the server space without this server falling over, unless someone wants to donate me the money to upgrade libsyn so it can store a 400-500Mb video, it aint gonna happen. And given it s taken days of QT crashes to get this far I doubt we d get there anyway. Anyway I hope you enjoy it, it s taken FAR too long. Filed under: Concerts and Tours, News On day three of Lollapalooza, the temperature decided to skyrocket close to the 100 degree mark, but that didn't stop neo-Afrobeatists Vampire Weekend from bringing the fun. Lead singer Ezra Koenig wore bright yellow shorts and yelped through a sunny pop song that may or may not have been a new one. Right before they played 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa,' Koenig took a moment to dedicate the song to the late and great John Hughes. He explained how important Hughes' films were for the city of Chicago, especially its suburbs. There wasn't a cover of Simple Minds' 'Don't You (Forget About Me),' but the kind acknowledgment sufficed. For the rest of their set, Vampire Weekend stuck to songs from their debut record including 'Mansard Roof,' 'Oxford Comma' and 'Campus.' As the dense crowd danced along, Koenig joked about someone's blow-up doll popping before reaching the call and response part of the set, encouraging the audience to find some energy and scream along. He succeeded in whipping the entire crowd into a frenzy on fast-paced closer 'Wolcott.'
