Suzaku detected the elements chromium and manganese while observing the central region of the Perseus galaxy cluster. The metallic atoms are part of the hot gas, or "intergalactic medium," that lies between galaxies. Exploding stars, or supernovas, forge the heavy elements. The supernovas also create vast outflows, called superwinds. These galactic gusts transport heavy elements into the intergalactic void.

On May 10, 2009 a pair of gamma-ray photons reached Fermi only 900 milliseconds apart after traveling for 7 billion years. Fermi s measurement gives us rare experimental evidence that space-time is smooth as Einstein predicted, and has shut the door on several approaches to gravity where space-time is foamy enough to interfere strongly with light.

Since human beings have existed we've looked at the night sky with a sense of wonder and mystery. We feel small, and ask "what is our place in the universe?" Could all this really be the result of random chance? Or were we placed here by a Creator who has in mind a purpose for our existence? http://www.gnmagazine.org/video/05182009-hubbles-sees-future.htm

Have you ever looked up into the night sky and wondered how far it reaches, and how it all began? Have you ever wondered what part we play on this tiny, beautiful planet? Or even about where all the different matter and energy that created our planet Earth come from? Scientists and astronomers who have studied our universe have developed theories about the its beginnings. They tell us that we, like everything else in the universe, are the results of the explosions of billions upon billions of stars.
