Flash QuickTime authors: RYANNE HODSON and JAY DEDMAN - duration: 09:54 A Word of Warning: This is a graphic video. If you do not eat meat and think killing animals is bad, you should not watch this video. So you like chicken eh? We continue cooking time on UV with a revlog from the other two early birdy mothervloggers Ryanne Hodson We live at The San Mateo Eco-Village, where we know our neighbors, garden together and learn how to live more sustainably. Part of living sustainably is eating local foods. Harvesting food from the garden and raising hens for eggs is about as local as you can get. When our neighbors Amy and Malaki arrived at the Eco-Village, they noticed a lack of eggs coming from the hens. Both have an agricultural background from years of working on a farm in Kenya. What do they do in Kenya when a bird gets too old to lay? They eat it. The whole damn thing! So we, as a community, decided to do just that. Most of us had never experienced living with chickens, let alone killing them for dinner. Growing up in the United States allows us to be vastly ignorant of where our food comes from- meat and vegetables alike. We thought this would be a good education for us city kids. MILESTONES IN VIDEOBLOGGING #2 Author: CHRIS WEAGELImportant thoughts published on September 28th, 2004 by our favorite Prof. Chris Weagel on the occasion of his 23rd birthday. About memories & reality and the strange fact that, at least for our generation and generations to come, the only remaining reality left of ones life is the reality caught on images and footage of oneself. And the strange fact that as a filmmaker you are able to create your own reality. For one reason or another this video has exactly the same length as THE HOUSE OF VLOG - WITH THE VLOGFATHER. Duration: 190
Revlog no. 45 authors: THE UPTAKEA Revlog by our beloved CITIZEN REPORTER BICYCLEMARK (Mark Foncesca Rendeiro): "How often, anywhere in the world, do you see protesters standing outside the home of an elected official? Take it one step further: how often do you see an elected leader (in this case SENATOR NORM COLEMAN) of one of the highest offices in the country, standing in front of his house openly having an unscripted debate with protesters who disagree with him in front of his house? Now add the video aspect; record, post, and let everyone on the internet see the result of this exchange. That is basically what you get with this entry on Minnesota Stories via a site called The Uptake. A civic moment that might look very web 2.0 but is actually one of the oldest democratic traditions of all time." A GIRL LIKE ME
from GracetoYou on March 28, 2007
Duration: 436
Duration: 436
Revlog no. 26 author: KIRI DAVIS The reassuring female voice asks the child a question: "Can you show me the doll that looks bad?" The child, a preschool-aged Black girl, quickly picks up and shows the Black doll over a White one that is identical in every respect except complexion. "And why does that look bad?" "Because she's Black", the little girl answers emphatically. "And why is this the nice doll?" the voice continues. "Because she's White." "And can you give me the doll that looks like you?" The little girl hesitates for a split second before handing over the Black doll that she has just designated as the uglier one. The children are from a Harlem Day Care Center. 15 of the 21 children surveyed preferred the White doll over the Black one. It is the year 2005... Should we revlog something that is neither coming from a weblog, nor made recently? Yes we should, for this is a true gem that needs to be seen by as many people. It is a 7 minutes film made in late fall 2005 by director Kiri Davis, at that time 16 years old. In the movie she talks with her girlfriends about being black and about their self-esteem. Halfway her film Davis repeats a shocking doll test that was originally conducted more than 50 years ago by the Afro-American groundbraking psychologist KENNETH B. CLARK. At that time the test helped to make the case for desegregation in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision outlawing segregated public schools. Half a century later the results of Kiri Davis's test are as shocking as can be. Permalink to the original posting: CLICK HERE More about Kiri Davis: CLICK HERE or HERE and also HERE. This film was produced under the auspices of REEL WORKS TEEN FILMMAKING. "Reel Works Teen Filmmaking, supported by HBO, is a free after-school program that challenges high school students to create short documentary films about their lives. Working one-on-one with professional filmmaker-mentors, students write, shoot and edit personal narrative videos on subjects they choose. In the process, they gain self-esteem, develop media literacy and master state-of-the-art digital filmmaking technology." THE ESTONIANS - PART 2 (House in Transition - 7 x 11)
from The McIntosh Group Show on March 26, 2007
Duration: 291
Duration: 291
Words on the walls. That's how the Estonian family Ojari deals with the empty rooms in the House in Transition. As Triin wrote in her proposal:"Our project is based on the idea of normal functioning of a family - the value of the everyday life routine. Suburbian housing areas are global dream products for families, housewives, non-city-type-of-persons etc. The planning of suburbia, design of its private and public spaces is glorification of the intimate lifestyle as well as reflection of some of the consumer societies basic principles. We were invited to take part in the project as a family and so we can "normalize" the otherwise non-typical artist's residence in Ypenburg again - we use it as hundreds of our neighbours. We may add some simple everyday objects to the private space like kid's playground accessories, plants etc. We will personalize the anonymous space. The geographical relocation for two weeks is just temporary circumstance, we will continue our daily routine, we will work and meet friends. The house will be a home for a change." Watch Marten Minkema's second and final visit to the Estonian guests on March 14th 2007. REVLOG no. 12 author: SILENTMIAOWduration: 08:36Now this is an extraordinary video made by a 27 year old women who is known by her screen names "silentmiaow" and "ballastexistenz" (her real name is A.M. Baggs). Silentmiaow is 'physically challenged' like they like to say in the USA. She is officially labeled as suffering from autism and schizophrenia. But what a woman she is! She is smart, eloquent in writing and she makes videos (all by herself), amongst which is this masterpiece. As she writes herself about this video: "The first part is in my "native language," and then the second part provides a translation, or at least an explanation. This is not a look-at-the-autie gawking freakshow as much as it is a statement about what gets considered thought, intelligence, personhood, language, and communication, and what does not".
