In March 2007 a report was leaked into the public domain that the SNP and Lib. Dems., would close schools, Nurseries and Family Centres, lay off teachers, and start a process of budget cuts for all public services across Edinburgh.. A hit-list was drafted by the Education Committee, with a NO consultation period for parents, until after deputations were supposed to be heard in August 2007. Parents and Students were voted out of the Public Gallery during the Council Meeting in August, 29-29, the Lord Provost having the deciding vote to ban the public from the Gallery and giving deputations. The decisions had already been made by the SNP to go ahead with the closures of these centres of excellence at the heart of our communities. The public retaliated. 23/8/07 .

Professionals and MP s, voice their opinions on the proposed decisions for budget cuts and school closures across the City of Edinburgh, at the Rally 23/08/07. The New Threat 15/09/07-Edinburgh Education Committee and Neighbourhood Services have drafted an Early Years Admissions and Review Policy creating new criteria s for children of nursery age dependant on free full-time provisional placements. The policy details a reduction of places from 1020 to 700. 4 new criteria s, though children will only be taken from the first 2 criteria s. The Education Committee are pushing for a 2 tier system of Education, based on Privatization and Social Type Care. Cllr Marilyne Maclaren has stated there will be NO Consultation on this decision. Neighbourhood services will also be in control as to what children are put into which nurseries and schools and where, dependant on application forms that will be handed to parents in October. Approx in August 2008 a new hit list of schools and nurseries will be released. There is also expected to be a large number of teaching staff to be made redundant, and an amalgamation of schools and nurseries creating Integrated Development Centres bursting at the seams providing quantity NOT quality !
