Inside the Airport
from Podcasting in Ireland June 28, 2007
Today, the Sony ICD MX-20 digital dictaphone goes inside an airport scanner, it records the sound track inside Jesper Just s video installation and it proves that we have some DIY tasks underway in Ireland. We made this podcast in response to hesitations some listeners expressed through Twitter and Facebook. Some listeners also asked for suggestions about Irish bloggers and we ve included some thoughts about people we read in FreeNews on our mobile phone. It s all part of this 35-minute [28 MB 96 kbps MP3 file] podcast from Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland. 00:10 Exploring the glossy production and social codes inside Jesper Just s video installation (his backing track behind narration). 02:10 Recording what it sounds like inside an airport scanner while griping about ground transportation at Dublin Airport. You don t have many public transport options after midnight. 05:00 Comments from callers. You can buy Moleskine notebooks in Dublin at Waterstone s (good prices on the storyboard edition) and in Hodges Figgis (only place in Ireland selling the unruled journalists edition). American drivers need to know that Irish roads have dashed lines marking the start of the road shoulders. Dashed lines marked centerlines on American roads. 06:10 Hiberno-English: Tanks a million. 08:00 Making your first dealings with Irish immigration as uneventful as possible. Remember, act like a tourist. 13:05 Visiting the French Gate Inn, North Burnley, Lancashire, for excellent sausages and lager. 16:00 Migrants in Ireland as explained by Kate Holmquist in her review of the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism in Ireland s report. 21:00 It s smart use of time to learn how to use free newsfeeds on web sites and blogs. 24:00 Blogs being read to me by Magnetic Time. They have a very cool newscaster programme that works well for me. It harvests blog items, bundles them together into an MP3 file and then reads the blog posts to me when I m away from the computer. 27:00 We have parallel channels here at Podcasting.ie and they cover education, music, and technology. 28:20 Your Best Mate. What s the advertisement all about? 29:05 Rural Ireland is beautiful so if you re like me, you may want to work at home while living in an area you prefer. 31:25 Thanks a million to Kate Holmquist, Travel Guardian, Ruth Maher, Tim Kirby, Keola Donaghy, Vicky Lee Wei Kay, NCCRI.ie, Steffen Coonan, Natasha Guiry and Jesper Just. 33:49 Underway in Ireland #69 ends. Third level challenge: troubleshoot the sound of the static sound that occurs during the first five minutes of this podcast.

So we re not recommending the experience to friends in search of the natural beauty of Ireland. 26:15 Big Mountain Fudge Cake God Hates Penguins 27:15 Answering a follow-up idea suggested by Keola Donaghy. 28:55 Things an American teenager might like about Ireland. 33:20 Tips about food in Ireland. Digital Expression
from Podcasting in Ireland April 25, 2007
Tipperary Institute s Digital Expression exhibition opens this evening in Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland. We made this short [08:23] introduction using only our handheld digital dictaphone and then distibuted this 6.5 MB 96 kbps MP3 file through a wireless jukebox throughout the evening. Anyone with a Bluetooth phone could receive the file over-the-air and listen to the audio as they walked among the exhibitions and chatted with the third level students who offered work for public review. from Podcasting in Ireland April 17, 2007
With a sunny sky warming the way, we used our Garmin Nuvi 360 to guide us onto the streets of Kilkenny on a media trip where we visited Gravity Loop in the Butler Gallery and Wild Geese in the Crafts Council of Ireland Castleyard space. Then we caught up with Katherine Blake (with the headset) and chatted about Digital Impressions, the multimedia exhibition opening in Clonmel on Wednesday evening, 25 April 2007. We recorded some conversations from the day and they fit into this 27-minute [23.7 MB 96 kbps MP3 file] podcast containing authentic Irish accents. After seeing the community film Race the Drop , we met with the director Will Nugent (at left) to hear his inside perspective about the making of this 40-minute arthouse release. We used our MXL iPod mic pulled through a UB1823FX mixer to gate out some hiss from the garage where we patched together the recordings made in the beer garden and in Studio Six. We flight checked the podcast audio by using a SonyEricsson Walkman phone on O2-Ireland and now it s safe for your ears too.
