back beach

back beach

from Vimeo / Nature in HD on May 04, 2009
Duration: 0
Some spare footage I had lying around from a recent trip to the North island of New Zealand. These were taken on Christmas Day 2008 on the "back beach" of New Plymouth. The sand, as you can see, is jet black and the colours of the sunset lent a prehistoric ambience to the scene. Some shots are too long I know, but I just couldn't bring myself to cut them. No colour correction has been used and all shots are taken with the support of my trusty monopod. There are a few where you can see the pattern of the focusing glass. That was purely user error; I accidentally bumped the aperture ring down to about f8 and didn't notice until halfway through shooting. I have yet to perfect the art of exporting video from FCP. I still get a washed out colour (the original looks 10 times better) and strange colour grading where the edges go dark. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! I import in at HDV50i (PAL) and export as a quicktime .mov file using Compressor at these settings (the screengrabs): hv20.com/showthread.php?t=8085 What am I doing wrong? My first video: vimeo.com/2186843 looks perfect. I have no idea how that one can turn out so well, and every video since suffers from washed out colour when exporting.
