When NFL quarterback Michael Vick was convicted of running a brutal dog-fighting ring in 2007, he was at the top of his game. But news of his Bad Newz Kennels branded the football star a dog-killer and earned him a two-year federal prison sentence. Vick is back in the NFL, but hes making an effort to show hes a changed man. In partnership with the Humane Society of the United States, Vick has been speaking to kids about the mistakes he has made and the cruelty of dog-fighting. At the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, Vick told young students and football fans he grew up in an impoverished neighborhood where dog-fighting and violence were the norm. The Rutgers Scarlet Knight, the Seton Hall Pirate and other team mascots helped celebrate the 10th birthday party of Sparkee, the mascot for the Somerset Patriots of Bridgewater.
