From Mike Spall the Annual Autumn Gala at the West Lancashire Light Railway, Hesketh Bank, Lancashire UK. This is the time when the railway gets as many of it's steam locomotives and internal combustion engines out for a run. This year the guess locomotive was Sragi No.1, an 0-4-2 (Krauss 4045 of 1899) from the Statfold Barn Railway, Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Produced by Steamontheweb: Black 5 45231, an old stalwart of the GCR, but sold in 2002 to raise much needed funds for the railway, has returned for a short stay. Facing north, meant opportunities for utilising some different locations such as Rothley Bank, the trains climbing from Rothley station up to Swithland Reservoir.

First day of our private winter freight charter was high overcast and the engine had a steam leak - perfect time to shoot video instead of stills. Here's some test footage using the Canon 5D Mk. II in video mode. I did not have a video tripod so the pan at the end is slightly shaky, as I am rotating the camera on the ball head of the still tripod. But the footage quality overall is fantastic, and it's a good backup to a real video camera. It doesn't quite have the ergonomics for full time video shooting, but good stuff! These live steam engines are MEG Steam Wendy 0-4-0 locomotives on 7 1/2" gauge at Bitter Creek Western, a private Railroad in California. First off is Jeff Badger's engine, then Roger joins him for a double header!
