Despicable Me Second trailer for this 3D animated comedy, and this time it's focusing on arch villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) trying to break into the headquarters of a rival bad guy. This looks like fun and the bit with the shark had me howling. Check it out on July 9. Sherlock Holmes A second trailer for the new Holmes fllck with Robert Downey Jr. in the title role aided by Jude Law as Watson. Pretty sure this will have awesome written all over it. Plan a trip to Baker Street for Christmas day. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time There's some serious spectacle at work here. Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this adaptation of a video game I've never played, but I'm pretty sure that's not necessary. It seems tailor-made to be a summer blockbuster, which is good because it comes out on May 28. Best Worst Movie Speaking as someone who has watched and enjoyed some truly awful films in his time, this one really speaks to me. This documentary examines the phenomenon/train wreck that is Troll 2, a 1990 horror flick whose badness has become legendary. No release date yet and I suspect this will be hard to find in theaters. How to Train Your Dragon In this new animated comedy from Dreamworks, a viking teenager is trying to learn the ways of his people including hunting and killing those pesky dragons that are plaguing them. He soon learns, though, that everything his people know about dragons is wrong and sets out on his own path. Training begins on March 26. New this week on AOL Moviefone: Splinterheads - A young slacker falls in love with a beautiful carnival worker. Invictus - Morgan Freeman stars as South African President Nelson Mandela who urges the captain of the national rugby team to strive for the World Cup for the sake of unifying their nation in the days following apartheid. Eichmann - Historical drama based on the confession of Adolf Eichmann. Mammoth - An intricately woven family drama starring Michelle Williams and Gael Garc a Bernal as a married couple whose lives begin to spin out of control. Shake Hands With the Devil - Based on true events surrounding a 1994 U.N. peacekeeping mission to Rwanda that failed to prevent the slaughter of 800,000 Rwandans. Avatar - Second trailer for James Cameron's epic 3D science fiction extravaganza. Did You Hear About the Morgans - A couple on the verge of divorce can't escape each other after they witness a murder and must enter the witness relocation program. Avatar A paraplegic marine from Earth has his consciousness transferred into an alien body so he can infiltrate the native people of a distant planet. More so than the teaser, this one gives a better idea of what the story is all about rather than just showing off the digital effects (which ARE pretty awesome). James Cameron's latest hits theaters on December 18. Green Zone Military action flick starring Matt Damon as a U.S. soldier searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The story is inspired by the book Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq's Green Zone by Rajiv Chandrasekaran. The bit about Damon's character wanting to know why things are happening seems kind of heavy handed and I half expected Jack Nicholson to pop up and tell him "you can't handle the truth." Still, this looks like it's got a lot going for it. Watch for this one on March 12.Filed under: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Trailer TrashContinue reading Trailer Park: A Mammoth Green Avatar Permalink | Email this | Comments

Toy Story 3 Full length trailer for the Disney/Pixar sequel in which Andy goes off to college leaving Woody, Buzz and the gang to be donated to a daycare center. Looks like a worthy successor to the franchise. The toys start getting real again on June 18. Serious Moonlight In sort of a romantic comedy take on Misery, Meg Ryan plays a woman who duct tapes her cheating husband (Timothy Hutton) to the toilet and refuses to release him until he loves her again. Could be a cute idea but it's got a "wait for the DVD" feel. Watch for this one on December 4. Dear John Channing Tatum plays a soldier home on leave who falls in love with a college student (Amanda Seyfried) and carries on a long correspondence (hence the title) once he returns to duty. This is out on February 5. The Missing Person Filmnoir about a PI hired to tale a man who we eventually learn supposedly died on 9/11. I love the retro look and style of this one which will be out some time in 2009. Broken Embraces The synopsis for this one sounds intriguing -- a man chooses to ignore the life he lived before the accident that caused his blindness and killed his beloved -- but I don't see any of that in the trailer. On the plus side, Penelope Cruz is as stunning as ever. This will be playing New York on November 20 and Los Angeles on December 11. New this week on AOL Moviefone: The Crazies - Remake of a George Romero film in which a small town is exposed to a chemical that drives the residents murderously insane. Disney's A Christmas Carol - Second trailer for the Disney holiday flick. Tooth Fairy - Dwayne Johnson stars as an unscrupulous hockey player who is forced to work as a tooth fairy. Shutter Island - Second trailer for Martin Scorsese's latest. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a Federal Marshall sent to investigate the disappearance of a dangerous inmate at a mental asylum. Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquel - Second trailer for the second film starring Jason Lee and a trio of pop song singing CGI rodents. Red Cliff - Historical drama set in China in 208 A.D. The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - Terry Gilliam's latest about a man who dares to thwart the devil not once but twice. The Book of Eli - 31 years after global war has ravaged the planet a man seeks to protect a book that could save humanity. The Messenger - Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson star as U.S. soldiers with the unenviable task of informing people that their loved one has been killed in action. Click image below to view full poster Cinematical has just received this exclusive poster for The Spy Next Door, starring everyone's favorite martial arts maniac Jackie Chan as a secret agent undercover and acting like a mild-mannered guy who, while babysitting his neighbor's kids, winds up having to fight off secret agents after one of the kids inadvertently downloads some secret code. Solomon Kane Like Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane is a creation of author Robert E. Howard, though most of us have probably never heard of the character. This lavishly produced effects/action/fantasy extravaganza is looking to change that. and it looks pretty awesome. No U.S. release date just yet. Disney's A Christmas Carol Robert Zemeckis's 3D animated flick looks far flashier than anything Charles Dickens had in mind. Then again, since everyone knows the story forward and backward, embellishment is almost mandatory. This looks like a nice slice of holiday movie fun and you can watch for it on November 6. The Fantastic Mr. Fox Director Wes Anderson uses old school stop-motion animation for this comedic tale of a band of animals with celebrity voices who must battle some angry farmers. Listen for the voices of George Clooney, Bill Murray and Meryl Streep among others. Things get foxy on November 13. A Serious Man Here's a trailer that understands what trailers are supposed to do: grab your attention and make you curious to see more. This black comedy directed by the Coen Brothers and set in 1967 concerns a college professor who is experiencing a professional dilemma and is on the verge of a divorce. This one goes into limited release on October 2. I Sell the Dead More than any other trailer I've seen lately this one has me dying to see the film right now. On the eve of his execution a nineteenth century grave robber tells the tale of his exploits unearthing the undead. Sadly, I will have to wait for the film's limited release on August 7. The hallowed halls of Hogwarts were stormed this past weekend by a group of heavily armed guinea pigs (metaphorically speaking, but imagine the film THAT would make) as G-Force pushed the latest Harry Potter adventure down to second place. The Ugly Truth took a respectable third place with the creepfest Orphan taking fourth. Here's the top five: 1. G-Force: $31.7 million 2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: $29.5 million 3. The Ugly Truth: $27.6 million 4. Orphan: $12.9 million 5. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: $8.4 million Three more new ones this week with laughs for younger and older audiences, and one designed to make you rethink your parenting options. Aliens in the Attic What's It All About: An adventure comedy about a group of kids fighting off hostile but diminutive aliens while staying at their family's Summer home. Why It Might Do Well: Doris Roberts in a Matrix style kung fu battle? Does that conjure an image or what? Why It Might Not Do Well: The trailer makes this seem like an uninspired made-for-Disney-Channel production. Number of Theaters: 3,100 Prediction: $11 million Funny People What's It All About: In this comedy Adam Sandler plays a successful stand-up comic who, when he learns he is dying, tries to forge a friendship with an up and coming comedian played by Seth Rogen. Why It Might Do Well: This is the latest from Judd Apatow who directed Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin and as of right now it's got an 82% at Rottentomatoes.com. Why It Might Not Do Well: Sandler has had his share of bad films. Number of Theaters: 3,000 Prediction: $38 million Filed under: Comedy, Horror, Trailer Trash, Family FilmsContinue reading Box Office: Funny Collections in the Attic Permalink | Email this | Comments

Alice In Wonderland Tim Burton's take on the classic Lewis Carroll book is just as creepy as you might expect. Johnny Depp is the stand-out as The Mad Hatter, but Tweedledum and Tweedledee will give you the willies too and the Cheshire Cat has more teeth than could possibly fit comfortably in his mouth. This may be the movie Burton was born to make. The tumble down the rabbit hole begins on March 5. The Book of Eli This trailer basically shows Denzel Washington being a bad ass in a bleak post apocalyptic future set thirty years after a global war has wiped out most of the population. Washington's character is walking across the wasteland carrying a book that can somehow save humanity. Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis also star. Look for this on January 15. Whiteout Kate Beckinsale stars as a U.S. Marshall stationed at an Antarctic research base who must find a murderer before the sun sets for six months. Based on a series of graphic novels, this kind of reminds me of 30 Days of Night mixed with elements of The Thing. This will be out on September 11.Filed under: Fandom, Trailer Trash, Movie Marketing, Trailers and ClipsContinue reading Trailer Park: Assassins, Mystery and Wonder Permalink | Email this | Comments

Despicable Me This animated comedy about the world's greatest super villain looks pretty cute and I definitely didn't see the big gag coming. The bad guy is shown in profile silhouette and is it just me or does he look like Danny Devito's Penguin from Batman Returns? Things get dastardly on July 9, 2010. Whip It! I had assumed from the title that this was a Devo biopic, but it's actually about a young girl from a small Texas town who grows tired of the beauty pageant scene and joins a roller derby team. Ellen Page stars and this marks Drew Barrymore's first theatrical film as director. Things get rolling on October 9.Filed under: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Trailer Trash, Family FilmsContinue reading Trailer Park: Despicable Whipping and Triangular Rice Permalink | Email this | Comments

Jennifer's Body Diablo Cody wrote the script for this one in which Megan Fox plays a high school girl who is possessed by a demon and inflicts her wrath upon her male classmates. The trailer seems to imply that she's a vampire but most of the descriptions I've found are avoiding the "V" word. Amanda Seyfried plays Jennifer's best friend who must put a stop to the evil. You can check out Jennifer's Body on September 18. District 9 There's a second trailer for this extraterrestrials as refugees flick produced by Peter Jackson. You see a little more of the aliens but they're quick glances. We do get come interesting glimpses of the alien technology and with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen making so much money I have to figure the public is going to like all the robots on display here. The aliens start slumming on August 14. Giallo Giallo is Italian for "yellow" but in this context it refers to an Italian film genre that combines police procedural with horror and exploitation elements. This is the type of film for which director Dario Argento is best known but he doesn't usually get Oscar winners like Adrien Brody to play his lead. The trailer reminds me of some of Argento's earlier stuff like Tenebre and Deep Red, which I'm sure is the idea. No U.S. release info yet. Carriers A decent looking tale of an apocalyptic plague and four friends attempt to survive it. If you've read The Stand or seen the mini-series based on it the idea seems kind of similar. Chris Prine, the new James T. Kirk stars and I thought the faces drawn on the surgical masks were a nice touch. Things start getting germy on September 4. Couples Retreat Four couples head to a tropical resort where they learn that couples' therapy is a mandatory part of the program. The impressive cast includes Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, and Kristen Bell. The retreat commences on October 9. Planet 51 There's a new full length trailer for this animated comedy about a human astronaut landing on an alien world that looks strikingly like an American suburb. The residents of the planet see the visitor as a threat and it looks like there's probably a decent message for kids about prejudice, but this one doesn't thrill me. The idea is cute and they get points for the use of The Killers' song "Spaceman" but it didn't have me laughing. Planet 51 touches down on November 20.
