TFiJ18: Tokyo Disneyland 2006
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) June 28, 2008
Summer 2008 is here in Toyama, so it's time to go into reruns! I'm really busy these days, so I thought I'd post an old video of a trip we made to Tokyo Disneyland in March 2006, before Max was born and only a few months after Shinobu was released from the hospital following her heart operation. I hope to get back with some more current video clips soon, but until I can manage that, I hope you enjoy watching some of our old stuff. This trip was the result of a promise Shinobu and I made to each other as she recovered in the hospital after her heart attack in the summer of 2005. We thought then, "boy, won't it be great if we can take Luke to Tokyo Disneyland?" It was a happy thought that helped get us through a tough time. So, when the trip finally came to pass, it was extra special. Just seeing the excitement on Luke's face brings back great memories!

As THE church in Christchurch, this landmark building is at the physical and spiritual heart of the garden city. Here's a short video clip of what it looks like inside, with background music taken from an actual Evensong service, sung by "The Men of the Choir."

Studying at King's Education
from popular posts - blip.tv (beta) April 02, 2008
Here is a short video clip that shows a bit of what it was like to study English at King's Education. Overall the curriculum was quite challenging for our students, as they were required to use English all the time, both in and out of class. Our students were grouped by level into three different classes, and each week on Friday they had to prepare and present a short public speech on that week's given topic. Also on Fridays, all the King's students gathered in the cafeteria for a short school assembly. Usually at this time all of the teachers gave out "student of the week" awards to a particular student who had worked especially hard. It was interesting to see such a focus on publicly acknowledging student work, something that is not done at TCFL.

Afternoon activity 7-Farm visit
from popular posts - blip.tv (beta) April 02, 2008
With 40 million sheep in this country, it was only a matter of time before we had a real direct encounter with some of them. Our sheep farming experience took place on a cold and cloudy day as we drove out to the Rubicon Valley sheep farm in the tiny village of Springfield, deep in the South Island countryside. The farm was unbelievably huge by Japanese standards, but medium-sized by Kiwi ones. There were about 3,000 sheep on hand, and the land owners, Chris and his wife Dell, managed the place. To make extra income, they provided daily farm shows. Our students had a great hand-on experience and came away with a better idea of one of New Zealand's primary industries.

Gondola ride
from Videoblogging - recent posts - blip.tv (beta) April 02, 2008
One of our aims in setting up the afternoon activity schedule for the students was to provide them with a broad overview of Christchurch right at the beginning of their stay in New Zealand. The city tour accomplished that in a specific way, and our 2nd activity, a ride on the Christchurch gondola, helped by giving students a clearer understanding of their wider surroundings.
