Tony Campolo
from The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos Video Podcast October 02, 2008
Ya know, some things in life just don't mix. Oil and water, stripes & polka dots and in American politics, how about Evangelicals and Democrats?' Good luck finding one of those, right? Well, the fact is - they do exist. And we have proof. Tony Campolo. He's been a Baptist minister for about 30 years, was the spiritual advisor to President Bill Clinton and most recently, he helped draft Barack Obama's campaign platform. A self proclaimed evangelical Christian - who leans to the political left. He's anti war, pro environment, supports gay rights and equality for women. Oh, and he thinks we should all help the poor too. Check out what else he's got to say about the religious right & left.

A Very SBE Christmas
from Steve Brown Etc. » Steve Brown Etc. December 21, 2007
Steve Brown is a notorious Scrooge. So, on this weekend before Christmas edition of Steve Brown Etc., we had an intervention. Cathy and I, along with Tony Campolo, cornered Steve in the studio and did all we could to baptize The Old White Guy with the Christmas spirit. Then, when our attempts failed, we brought in the big guns. Don t miss my 7-year-old daughter Hannah s national radio debut in the last segment of the program. Listen via one of the options below. From everyone here at Key Life Network and SBE, we wish you the merriest of Christmases and a blessed New Year.

Red-Letter Christians
from Steve Brown Etc. November 30, 2007
When choosing teams, everyone wants Jesus on their side. The Religious Right has been scoring political points with Jesus for years. Red-Letter Christians have responded by focusing on the words of Jesus and trying to portray him as a free political agent. Tony Campolo says, "We [Red-Letter Christians] are people who want to assure that Jesus is neither defined as a Republican nor a Democrat." But are they actually playing ball with a new team in town...the Religious Left? (Okay, I'll stop with the sports metaphor now. Sorry. I got carried away.) Tony and Stan Guthrie stopped by SBE this week to talk about Stan's recent Christianity Today article titled, When Red is Blue: Why I am not a Red-Letter Christian. Click the play button to listen here, or download the MP3 for later. Subscribe to the podcast and get the show delivered fresh and free each week.

The God of Intimacy & Action
from Steve Brown Etc. September 28, 2007
If you're like me, you may want to be more involved in evangelism and social justice, but often find yourself overwhelmed by the pressures of everyday life. There's just no energy left to strive for holiness and God's redemptive work in the world. Well, slack no more! Here's the surprising solution to our conundrum. Tony Campolo and Mary Darling join us today to talk about reconnecting ancient spiritual practices, evangelism, and justice. This is one of my favorite SBE programs of all time...simple, fun, and profound. Don't miss it. It just may alter your consciousness. Tony is professor emeritus of sociology at Eastern University, a frequent media commentator on issues of faith and politics, and Our Favorite Lib. Mary Darling is associate professor of communication at Spring Arbor University and a Protestant who has been trained in spiritual direction in the Jesuit tradition. She also teaches in her university's Spiritual Formation and Leadership graduate program. They've written a new book together titled, The God of Intimacy and Action.
