The libertarian magazine Reason is out with a list of the worst nanny states. Seattle is number two, right behind Chicago. Apparently Chicago's attempted Foie Gras ban pushed them to the top. Do you think Seattle does too much to limit personal behavior? Is the city a nagging nanny? Or do you find the nanny state charge wrong headed. Do you agree with policies aimed at improving health and safety? Maybe you feel like you need a strong nanny sometimes? The Reason Magazine survey of nanny cities ranked them by gambling; number of prostitutes per capita; smoking restrictions; alcohol restrictions; gun and drug laws. Las Vegas is at the opposite end of permissiveness from Seattle. Should Seattle have a little more Vegas? Or should what happens in Vegas, stay in Vegas?

The company says most of the cuts will be accomplished through early retirements, attrition and voluntary separation programs. However, Chrysler said involuntary layoffs will be considered if it fails to meet its targets. ---------------------------They're lovin it. Consumers helped bring McDonald's back to profitability. Supersize spending at the hamburger chain brought its quarterly earnings to just under $1.2 billion. The results appeared to ease some concerns that McDonald's will suffer by the slowdown in consumer spending.-------------------------Bill Gates and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will pour $375 million into a global effort to cut smoking. The philanthropists, who have a combined worth of more than $70 billion, say the money will help efforts in developing countries where tobacco use is highest. The purpose of the Voice Road Tour is to inspire, educate and fire up youth in a unique and new way. The Voice Road Tour will stop in diverse areas of Indiana allowing you to talk to thousands of Hoosiers about Voice and the overall theme for this tour, "Don't Glam Tobacco". "Don't Glam Tobacco" started last summer in order to combat the entertainment industry's glamorization of tobacco in movies, TV and music. Because of this campaign, last year Voice sent over a thousand petitions to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and MTV demanding them to re-evaluate movie ratings and airing prime time television programming with tobacco usage prominently displayed.
