Your actions could save lives. At the heart of what I have referred to as The Sheepdog is a selflessness that looks outwardly to the needs of others. They cannot abide watching their fellow humans beings suffer and die while they do nothing. They are compelled into action even when those actions could lead to their own deaths or injury. The Sheepdog comes from every walk of life, every race, and can be male or female; it is impossible to identify them from appearance alone. It is their actions in the face of horrific situations that reveals the Sheepdog as they step forward when no one else will. Lenny Skutnik, in the face of the tragic Air Florida crash in 1982 into the icy Potomac River, was just such an unassuming Sheepdog. He jumped into the aviation fuel soaked and frigid waters to save passenger Priscilla Tirado just before slipped beneath the water to her death. Hundreds had been watching Priscilla flounder and would have watch her die without doing anything. These are sheep that are frozen into inaction by their lives of denial and lack of mental and material preparation. They are not bad people but nore are they heroic; they're just there. Leeny's Sheepdog heart was revealed that day. They are others like him in civilian, law enforcement, fire fighting, and military ranks. But they are relatively few indeed and they are special. Few have what I feel possess the other key qualities of the Sheepdog (discussed in the video): a strong value system, unassuming manner, bravery, judgment and maturity, preparation, practiced skill sets, and a strong sense of duty in the face of often scary circumstances. The Sheepdog Concept is foundational to my gear reviews here: an attempt to give quality information to help equip you good people for your day. Both mental and material prepartation can expand your capabilities in this important calling. Good Sheepdogs span the ranks and include responsible and caring civilians, law enforcement officials, firefighters, paramedics, PJs, EMTs, pilots, and soldiers. Many of these come to TNP to get this info as they equip and prepare. I try hard not to let them down. The do-gooders of the world have created a Fear Culture, teaching and advocating that ANY object, device, or thing that could possibly cause harm should be avoided and outlawed. This protectionist agenda serves to lessen public safety, NOT increase it. Moreover it has created millions of sheeple who claim NO personal responsibility, who have no self-reliance, and who completely lack the skill sets to operate and master dangerous things. This is in stark contrast to days gone by; personal responsibility, common sense, and a variety of useful skill sets were passed onto growing generations and their use was matter-of-fact way of life. In many circles it's still this way despite ever-advancing government socialism. Within our own spheres of influence, we should all work to reverse the trend of idiocy, blame shifting, and incompetence that the protectionist culture fosters against items that hold potential for misuse. Instead of fearing these devices we should master them and become proficient, safe, and expert in their use all while embracing personal accountability. The military teaches young boys and girls to do this all the time with great success. When used by competent, good people of the world, these device INCREASE public safety and peace not lessen it. Surely there will be the crazies and nutjobs that will abuse them and cause suffering even death with dangerous things. But the percentages of this are miniscule and regardless, no amount of legislation has even stopped these abuses and it never will. Instead we should increase the sheepdogs of the world who take ownership of lives and their mastery of technologies which ensure security, utility, or even fun. Government regulation fosters the Fear Culture and breeds incompetence within the general public. If left alone, the ownership and use of such devices can be self-regulating, and will serve to nullify the ever- increasing proliferation of predatory or free-fire zones for the wolves of the world. Plenty of instruction within the Nutnfancy Project is out there already on the use of dangerous things and more will be forthcoming. Moreover many other great websites and organizations like the NRA abound that can provide instruction. Therefore if one is truly concerned about the public good then he shouldn't fear dangerous things but should fear the ignorance that promotes their incompetent use and abuse.

Washington, D.C. 20229// Attn: Intellectual Property and Restricted Merchandise Branch// Commissioner Ahern, I have become aware that CBP is revoking earlier rulings that assisted opening knives (that require manual manipulation to deploy!) are NOT switchblades. Since many courts and legislative bodies rely upon these CBP knife definitions, this revised ruling will have broad and unintended consequences. Your re-definition of these folding knives will create foolish bureaucracy and regulation, criminalize millions of good people, create more economic hardship by destroying the knife and tool industry (and the military/LE access to these items as well), and in the end will only lessen public safety. • Knives are already highly regulated with current laws, both on national and local levels. Millions of good people across the country use folding knives for duty, utility tasks, outdoors activities, emergency services, rescue operations, and for legal defensive purposes. This CBP interpretation burdens law enforcement and will instantly criminalize about 40 million good people. It is very unlikely anyone would dispose of any knives and it will create unnecessary enmity between citizenry and government. • The economy is failing. And yet your ruling will make it worse. The outlawing of assisted opening AND most other folding knives with this ruling will destroy a thriving industry that employs thousands upon thousands of people. This is an industry that only needs to be left alone to succeed. And for years, succeed they have despite tremendous economic challenges. It is also this knife and tool industry that supplies these items to our armed forces and law enforcement officers. The CBP ruling will crush it and lead us further towards a full-on economic Depression. The military and police will have nowhere to turn for their knives then. Is this what you want? • A knife is a viable and legal defensive tool, often carried by reasonable and good people. This CBP revocation is a capricious assault of these defensive and utility tools legally used by millions of Americans. Like a firearm, these tools should enjoy the same Constitutional protections (arms) and the bad guys will always have such items and they always have. It is only the law abiding citizen that will be felonized by this assault on knife possession. Again, is this what you want and is this good law? • With this re-definition, most folding knives will be interpreted as illegal despite the smokescreen of disinformation your office seems to be dispensing over this issue. This re-definition of switchblades is far reaching and carries the aforementioned political and societal liabilities. It will do nothing to increase public safety. At the very least, this matter should be open to public commentary for 120 days. Please extend this feedback period and open up the option for emailed responses. More to the point, I feel this issue will be a political liability for your office and I urge you to ABANDON this ruling immediately. For the record then, I FULLY oppose your offices actions re-classifying these knives as switchblades.
