Aminetu Haidar, mujer saharaui que lleva más de 20 años luchando de forma pacífica por la independencia de su pueblo por lo que fue detenida en 1986,por las fuerzas de ocupación marroquí, en una manifestación con motivo de la llegada de una comisión de Naciones Unidas a las zonas ocupadas del Sahara Occidental. Estuvo cuatro años en una cárcel secreta de Marruecos, con los ojos vendados y no salió hasta 1991 con otros 300 presos saharauis. Volvió a ser arrestada en 2006 mientras preparaba una manifestación en la ciudad ocupada de Esmara. Esta valiente mujer saharaui y defensora de derechos humanos fue sometida a toda clase de torturas y vejaciones pero nada ha podido amilanar la fuerza de esta heroína para que deje de luchar por los legítimos derechos de su pueblo a la libertad y a la independencia. The CORCAS delegation met with the Moroccan American community on Wednesday, was headed by its president Khalihenna Ould Errachid.He delivered an address in which he introduced the mission of the council and answered questions from the audience. He stressed that his council represents a new Morocco, which is committed to human rights, reconciliation and representation of its citizen. It was in the very same spirits that the Council was set up by his Morocco's King Mohammed VI as an initiative to pursue a just, all-inclusive, conciliatory solution to the what seemed before as an intractable Sahara problem. Mr. Ould Errachid delivered his message to the Moroccan community and encouraged them to take part in the effort to guarantee the territorial integrity of the homeland. Lors d’une réunion du Conseil de sécurité lundi, l’émissaire de l’ONU, Peter Van Walsum, a estimé que l’indépendance du Sahara était un objectif irréaliste et que le Front Polisario ferait mieux d’y renoncer.
