May 20, 2008 - Angel Orensanz Center Carnegie Hall Presents in a Neighborhood Concert Series event The Bar-Olk Project: Arthur Sato, oboe (producer); Kristoffer Saebo, double bass (producer); Chris Norman, flute, pipes, and vocals; Lionel Party, harpsichord. With special guests: Sami Merdinian, violin; Meena Bhasin, viola; Jody Redhage, cello; Nick Halley, percussion, piano, and vocals; Andy Thurston, guitar. Seeking to bridge cultures and traditions in a concert format that appeals to young adult audiences, Saebo and Sato have collaborated to create The Bar-olk Project, which compare and contrast the performance traditions and notions of authenticity of both Baroque-era classical music and folk music. The concert mixed discussion and interactive elements with performances featuring Saebo, Sato, The Chris Norman Ensemble, and a Baroque Ensemble created particularly for this program, led by New York Philharmonic harpsichordist Lionel Party.
