To read the text, you may need to pause the video. The school bully may need as much help as the bullied child. Physicians can help defend a child that is being victimized by a teacher or fellow student, a bully. When I determine that a child s physical symptoms are due to school related stress, I send a medical report to the principal. If a child is victimized or beaten at school, I recommend that a police report be filed. A student may be crying out for help by bullying fellow students. Many students don t have the most appropriate home environment that might be conducive to learning and to one day achieve a productive life. The school must interview the parents of a bully . There may be serious home issues that may need to be addressed for the benefit of the child. We can only empty our jails, reduce our police force and phase out our ineffective and expensive welfare system by focusing on children. No child should be born and raised on welfare as a way of life. Welfare can destroy the inherent talent in all of us. When I was a student in Compton and Los Angeles, there was no one to defend me from the blows and threats that I frequently received. Through wit and skill, I survived. Socialism in Russia worked because Stalin developed a totalitarian killing machine; it was a horrible Russian experience and must not be repeated. In the United States, the public socialist system works because we have allowed it to unionize and lobby for its perpetual existence. No politician can take on the various public unions that include Police, Welfare Workers, Guard Union and all other public workers. To take on such groups would tantamount to political suicide. In the 1960 s, government was very small and public workers were not allowed to unionize. Today, the unions threaten our very national security since they can effectively shut down a city, like Los Angeles and its airport. So where is free enterprise in public education and learning? A child s education is sacred. The public school system must be reformed in a manner that it is held accountable at the local level. Public schools must compete for the public funds that belong to our students, not the teachers and their unions. Many of our ghetto public schools look like actual prisons or jail preparatory institutions. Check them out! Where is free enterprise in Medicine? We must begin to see a medical service as a product. Haven t you noticed that a mechanic may more effectively diagnose your car than a patient by a doctor? The mechanic gives refunds; the doctor doesn t. In the video, the man with allergic, bacterial keratoconjunctivitis/iritis had just been to a local emergency room for care a few hours before coming to see me. After a cursory exam, he was sent home with a prescription for Sulfacetamide drops 10%. He knew he had not received the appropriate care, but he ll have to pay the $300 hospital bill anyway. We must begin to legally reconsider reimbursement of medical fees if the service is later deemed inappropriate or incorrectly diagnosed. This patient s pink eye began with allergic conjunctivitis with associated itching. His condition progressed until the eye became light sensitive and painful. The ciliary flush around the cornea is of great clinical importance. Patient had a secondary bacterial infection with matting. His vision was 20/70. The latter number means that what he should normally see at 70 feet, he could only see it when standing 20 feet away. I stained his eye with fluorescein in order to examine his cornea for abrasions or herpes, a diagnosis a doctor cannot miss. After checking his visual acuity and examining his eye, I applied a topical anesthetic, Proparacaine Hydrochloride 2%. After the exam, I rinsed his eye and applied Erythromycin Ophthalmic ointment, once. After my exam I felt certain that the patient did not have acute glaucoma, herpes keratitis, or Chlamydia trachomatis. I treated him with liquid tear drops qid, an oral corticosteroid tapered over three days, and oral Cephalexin 500 mg tid x 3 days. I gave him the first dose of Prednisone and Cephalexin. Six hours later, he felt dramatically improved. While the hospital diagnosed this patient with run-of-the-mill pink eye, his condition was potentially more serious. This is the manner in which my patient with conjunctivitis progressed to the Tolosa-Hunt syndrome; the latter case can be seen on another video. If you have a pink eye associated with light sensitivity and pain, it may be more serious than you think. Whenever you have conjunctivitis, avoid using your contact lenses until well. Turkey is preparing other steps in a battle against Kurdish militant groups. The Kurds live on both sides of the border and depend on trade that crosses that line. So it's significant that Turkey is threatening economic sanctions, accusing Iraq's Kurdish leadership of being a terrorist organization.
