THE ACACIA STRAIN interview w/ VINCENT on CAPITAL CHAOS 2008
from YouTube :: Videos by capitalchaos July 17, 2008
Vincent of The Acacia Strain @ The Boardwalk~Orangevale, CA 6/13/2008 also on the bill were THE WARRIORS, SINCE THE FLOOD & ALL SHALL PERISH http://www.myspace.com/theacaciastrain The Acacia Strain is a four-piece metalcore/Deathcore band based in Chicopee, Massachusetts, USA. The band is currently signed to Prosthetic Records. The band as a whole has been together since 2001 but has undergone many member changes. The band is known for their heavy downtuned guitars, irregular breakdowns, groove patterns, and arguably popularized the use of the tritone or "brown note" (an interval of a sharp fourth) in metalcore breakdowns. They have three studio albums. "...And Life Is Very Long" (Devil's Head - 2002), "3750" (Prosthetic, Devil's Head - 2004), and "The Dead Walk" (Prosthetic - 2006) as well as a split seven-inch record with then Devil's Head lablemates Loyal To The Grave in which they cover the song "Seasons In The Abyss" which was originally recorded by the band Slayer. The band has worked with acclaimed producers Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Zeuss (Shadows Fall and Hatebreed). http://www.devilsheadquarters.com/ Although not something that the band is particularly proud of, the influence of The Acacia Strain can be measured in the surge in the use of the tritone breakdown in the works of the band's North American contemporaries in the years following the release of 3750. The transition from power chord breakdowns to tritone breakdowns can be seen by comparing the earlier, more metal- and hardcore-influenced releases of bands such as For The Fallen Dreams, Emmure, Liferuiner, etc, to the same band's more recent releases. FANG on CAPITAL CHAOS 2008
from YouTube :: Videos by capitalchaos July 07, 2008
FANG on CAPITAL CHAOS 2008 @ Lennon Studios in San Francisco, CA 4/5/2008 @ a benefit for Spike. Fang is the name of the hardcore punk originating from California in the early '80's. http://www.myspace.com/fangofficial Fang was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California in the early 1980's. The band broke up in 1989 when key member Sam McBride was sent to prison for killing his girlfriend, Dixie Lee Carney. Upon his release, in 1995, McBride changed his name to Sammytown and reformed Fang. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Fang+(2) Fang's first record under the name 'Fang' was actually more of an experimental record, according to the band; the "Yukon Fang" single. Fang guitarist Tom Flynn and bass-player Brian Beattie, his former bandmate from the bands "Tapeworm" and "Safety Patrol", put out "Yukon Fang" as a duo and thus Fang was born. The original version of Fang toured the country once, only to break up shortly thereafter with Beattie moving on to Texas where he later formed the band "Glass Eye". While this was happening, Sam McBride, the bands vocalist, was singing with future Fang Drummer Greg Langston in the band "Shut up". Eventually, "Fang" won out, and the bands line-up included McBride, Chris Wilson (Bass), Tom Flynn (Guitar), and Joel Fox (Drums). Together they contributed the song "Fun with Acid" on the "Not so Quiet on the Western Front" compilation LP. Shortly thereafter, guitarist Tom Flynn created "Boner Records" and released their debut LP and EP "Landshark" and "Where the Wild Things Are." Tim Stiletto drummed on the latter. These two releases are now considered classic east bay punk. http://www.irscorner.com/f/fang.html In January 1986 the "Spun Helga" LP was recorded in West Germany with McBride singing vocals, and two germans named Joe (Guitar) and Ollie (Drums) playing instruments. We Bite Records in Germany released the LP, but in the US it was handeled by National Trust Records. Fangs next released was 1987's "A Mi Ga Sfafas?" (The title literally means "Give Me Head?" in Yugoslavian). The lineup during this era was McBride, Bill Collins (guitar), Joe Miller (bass), and Steve Chinn (drums). Around this time, Fang recorded an album that, up until 2008 remained unreleased. It was entitled "Pissed-Off Buddah." Luckily for Fang fans, this album was released with Fangs other albums "Spun Helga" and "A Mi Ga Sfafas?" in 2008. In 1989 Sam McBride was sentenced to six years in prison for killing his girlfriend, Dixie Lee Carney. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/1998-03-12/music/between-punk-rock-and-a-hard-place/ During Fang's inevitable break, punk rock group Green Day recorded a cover of their song "I Want to Be on TV" and released it on the B-Side of their hit single "Geek Stink Breath." The song was later re-released on the groups B-Side compilation album entitled "Shenanigans." After a Long break Fang regrouped in 1995 and put out the "Electric Chair" single on Man's Ruin Records. The at this time included Sam McBride (Vocals: Sam had recently legally changed his name to "Sammytown"), Greg Langston (Drums), Bill Burnett (Guitar) and Josh Levine (Bass). This incarnation of the Band recorded the "American Nightmare" LP on Wingnut Records. In 1997 Boner Records released Fang's first compilation album, entitled "Landshark/Where the Wild Thing Are." The album included Fang's debut album and debut EP. In 1999 Jim Martin (from Faith No More), joined on guitar, and recorded four songs for the Hello Records CD "Fish and Vegetables," which was released as a split LP by fellow punk rock groups Dr. Know, and Hellions. By 2001 the band was composed of Sammytown, Brian Schopflin (Bass), Jonny Manck (Guitar), Alby Wasted (Guitar),and Ike (Drums). In 2008 the band released their second compilation CD entitled "Spun Helga/A Mi Ga Sfafas?/Pissed Off Buddha" which included three of their albums, including the previously unreleased album "Pissed Off Buddha. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fang_(band) Author: capitalchaos Keywords: FANG Punk Gutter Thrash Berkely NorCal Metal Bay Area Alternative Blues Indie Pop Rock Unsigned Added: July 7, 2008

EXODUS on CAPITAL CHAOS 2008
from YouTube :: Videos by capitalchaos July 07, 2008
EXODUS on CAPITAL CHAOS 2008 @ The Tidal Wave Festival 4/5/2008 also appearing were ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, HAVOK, PSYCHOSOMATIC, ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST & HIRAX Exodus is an American thrash metal band formed in 1980 in San Francisco, California by guitarist Gary Holt, and singer/drummer Tom Hunting. Over the course of twenty-eight years, Exodus has gone through countless lineup changes, two lengthy hiatuses, and experienced the deaths of two band members. With two live albums and one compilation, Exodus has released a total of eleven albums and remains one of the few early thrash metal bands that are still active. Gary Holt remains the only steady member of the band, appearing on all their releases. Though Tom Hunting is one of the founding members, he has made numerous departures from the band but currently is the active drummer. http://www.myspace.com/exodus Their eighth studio album, The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A was released on October 23, 2007 in the United States and October 26, 2007 in Europe. http://www.exodusattack.com/ In 1982, Exodus included Kirk Hammett and Gary Holt on guitars, Paul Baloff on lead vocals, Goeff Andrews on bass and drummer Tom Hunting. This lineup recorded the band's 1982 Demo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exodus_(band) In 1983, founding member Kirk Hammett left Exodus to join Metallica and was replaced by guitarist Rick Hunolt and Rob McKillop replaced Andrews on bass. This lineup released the classic title Bonded by Blood (1985) sometimes cited as an influence on up-and-coming bands of the thrash era. http://www.tartareandesire.com/bands/Exodus/627/ Shortly before the release of Pleasures of the Flesh (1987), Paul Baloff left the band or was forced to leave. He was replaced by Steve "Zetro" Souza, who also sang for Legacy, a band that developed into Testament. Baloff later went on to form the band Piranah. http://www.lyricstime.com/exodus-thrash-under-pressure-lyrics.html Exodus' line-up remained stable for the next few albums, but the band never garnered the success of their peers, such as Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. After two fairly heavy releases (Fabulous Disaster and Impact is Imminent), the band released their first live effort, Good Friendly Violent Fun. TESTAMENT on CAPITAL CHAOS 2005
from YouTube :: Videos by capitalchaos July 03, 2008
TESTAMENT on CAPITAL CHAOS 2005 Testament is an American thrash metal band from California. Being one of the more influential American metal bands, they were perhaps the most popular band of that scene to not break into the mainstream. Some of their records nonetheless entered the charts in major markets such as the United Kingdom and Germany. Testament has two Top 40 albums and one Top 50 album to its credit in the UK. Their 1999 album The Gathering also entered the Top 50 in Germany. They had minor top 100 album success in the United States. http://www.testamentlegions.com/ Testament was formed in the San Francisco area in 1983 by guitarist Eric Peterson and his cousin, Derrick Ramirez, also a guitarist, originally using the name Legacy. The band soon recruited bassist Greg Christian, drummer Mike Ronchette, and vocalist Steve Souza. Ramirez was subsequently replaced by guitarist Alex Skolnick, who had studied under bay-area guitarist Joe Satriani. The band released one self-titled 4 song demo in 1986. Ronchette left shortly after the recording and was replaced by Louie Clemente. Steve Souza subsequently left the band to join Exodus, and suggested that Chuck Billy should replace him on lead vocals. While recording their first album, the band was forced to change their name to Testament (which, according to Maria Ferrero in the May 2007 issue of Revolver, was suggested by Billy Milano of S.O.D.) because "The Legacy" was already trademarked by a jazz band. http://www.myspace.com/testamentlegions Testament's first album, The Legacy, was released in 1987 on Megaforce Records. Testament received instant fame within thrash circles and were often compared with fellow bay-area thrash pioneers Metallica. The band quickly managed to increase their exposure by heading out on a successful tour of America and Europe with Anthrax, who were then touring in support of their Among the Living album. On this tour the Live at Eindhoven EP was recorded. http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=70 The next album, The New Order, was released in 1988, and found the band continuing in a similar vein. After another successful world tour the band headed back into the studio to record Practice What You Preach. Released in 1989, the album minimized the occult and gothic themes found in the lyrical content of their first two albums, instead focusing on real-life issues such as politics and corruption. The album was the band's most popular to date and even MTV took notice, giving the title track extensive airplay on Headbanger's Ball. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testament_(band) 7/4/2008 #72 - Premium Most Viewed (Today) - Music - Mexico #69 - Premium Most Viewed (Today) - Music - Netherlands #51 - Premium Most Viewed (Today) - Music - Brazil Author: capitalchaos Keywords: Testament Legacy Thrash Metal Alternative Rock Indie Blues Added: July 3, 2008
