The Maggiore Trio, 11-13
from NPR: From the Top Podcast April 02, 2008
The Maggiore Trio 12-year-old violinist JiEun "Anna" Lee, 13-year-old cellist Taeguk Mun, and 11-year-old pianist Alice Burla are all students at the Juilliard School's Prep Division. Taeguk is brand new to the U.S. having moved from Korea just five months ago to study music here. Playing chamber music is fairly new to all three of them. "It can be harder than playing solo," says Anna, "because when you're a soloist everyone has to follow you. When you play chamber music you need to really see what the other people want and listen to each other." On From the Top's radio show, the trio played the Finale from Haydn's Piano Trio in G major as well as a two vignettes from "Five Vignettes for Piano Trio" written by 13-year-old composer Matthew Woodard. It was the first time they played music by a living composer, and it was an exciting process for them. To help them bring the piece to life, they developed imagery to go along with each vignette. "The first vignette is called 'Spring' so we tried to imagine a sunrise over a beach," says Anna. "The second is called 'the Wind and the Waves,' so we think of a tsunami covering everything in its path," adds Alice. Upon hearing his piece played for the first time by the Maggiore Trio, Matthew applauded them, saying, "They did very, very well."

from Art - recent posts - blip.tv (beta) March 30, 2008
LuridTV is proud to present an all-new web series that spotlights acclaimed comics illustrator P. Craig Russell (KILLRAVEN, ELRIC, SANDMAN, THE RING OF THE NIBELUNG). A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in painting, Craig has run the gamut in comics. After establishing a name for himself at Marvel, he went on to become one of the pioneers in opening new vistas for this underestimated field with, among other works, adaptations of operas by Wagner (PARSIFAL) and Mozart (THE MAGIC FLUTE). He has become an artist's artist with his fine-lined realistic style. In Episode 1 (of 6), Craig is profiled by the local newspaper, and we see him at the drawing board, hard at work on his adaptation of Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN: THE DREAM HUNTERS! Check back every Monday for an all-new installment and feel free to embed our videos on your website, blog or MySpace!
