Wes Anderson's 10 Best Movie Music Moments

Wes Anderson's 10 Best Movie Music Moments

Filed under: The Hit List Perfectly matching a song with a scene is nothing new (see: Scorsese, Martin), but Wes Anderson takes the movie soundtrack to new levels of artistry. In all his films, the young writer-director displayed a record geek's ability to wow viewers with a song that's not only enjoyable but, at its best, makes a scene instantly memorable. With the release of 'Fantastic Mr. Fox,' Anderson's first animated feature, Spinner picked the director's 10 best music moments. The Who, 'A Quick One While He's Away' ('Rushmore') While a ton of songs in 'Rushmore' enhance scenes, this revenge montage, where Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman feud over the love of a local teacher, is absolutely killer in that department. As icing on the cake, Anderson stops the Who's sonic assault (lifted from their amazing performance on 'The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus') for a moment, then kicks it back in with a cut to Schwartzman in handcuffs being dragged down a high school hallway. Meanwhile, the Who, rather ironically, scream, "You are forgiven!"

Top 10 Funny Music Videos of the 2000s: The Song Parodies

Filed under: Video, The Hit List Ever since 'Weird Al' Yankovic instructed the public to 'Eat It,' music videos have been ripe for mockery. And rightly so: The line between hip and hilarious is a fine one, indeed. For comedians, the rabid pursuit of cool on constant display in music videos is easy pickings. And maybe it's because comics secretly want to be pop stars, but some of the funniest material of the the past decade has been song spoofs. Here are the top 10 funny music video parodies of the 2000s. 10. 'Like a Boss,' the Lonely Island In this 'Saturday Night Live' digital short, Andy Samberg is asked in a job performance review by Seth Rogen what he does in the office all day. Samberg recounts a day in the life of "The Bawss," from the mundane to the profane. What begins as a sly send-up of rappers' tendency to proclaim their position at the top of the food chain warps into sordid romantic humiliations and unnatural relations with a giant drug-induced fish. Quentin Tarantino's 10 Best Music Moments

Quentin Tarantino's 10 Best Music Moments

Filed under: Exclusive, The Hit List If Quentin Tarantino's movie career can be encapsulated in a single blast of music, it's the twang-laden rumble of Dick Dale's 'Miserlou.' Energizing the opening credits of 'Pulp Fiction,' it's a hard, fast piece of retro cool set in an eminently modern (and post-modern) context. Plus, it's exciting as hell. Few other filmmakers have been so renowned for their ability to find just the right piece of music to set a mood, accent a moment or send a scene into overdrive. With the release of his World War II thriller 'Inglourious Basterds,' it's time to look at Tarantino's greatest hits. And at the end of the list, check out the premiere of one of the songs from 'Basterds': Sam Shelton singing 'The Man With the Big Sombrero,' plus an exclusive interview with Tarantino himself on how the song came to be. 1. Stealers Wheel, 'Stuck in the Middle With You' ('Reservoir Dogs') The soundtrack for this bloody heist pic is dominated by selections from fictional oldies radio station K-Billy's Super Sounds of the '70s, with comedian Steven Wright serving as DJ. The sole smash by Gerry Rafferty's band offers slyly comedic commentary as Mr. Blonde shimmies his way toward the cop whose own hearing will soon be impaired by the sudden removal of his ear. What could be worse than being stuck with Michael Madsen's razor-wielding psycho? See the Stealers Wheel video
