From : The Chris Pirillo Show
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed Leo LaPorte and I worked together a few years ago on TechTV. Since that time, we have appeared at different conferences and conventions at the same time. People constantly ask when will you and Leo do something together again!? . We are each doing our own thing these days, but it was great fun to get together via phone during Leo s recent 24 Hours of iPhone . We had a lot of laughs, and discussed many different things. First and foremost, of course, we dished about the new iPhone 3G. Here s a peek at some of the other products we talked about. Tengu Here we have a cute little white plastic brick with a face made of LEDs. The tiny microphone in the base picks up sounds in the room, whether it’s music, or your loudmouth boss, and makes his mouth move in time. It’s like he’s lip synching to the song! Kinda like Britney, only much much smaller, and probably smells better. He’s USB powered, so plug him in to any powered USB port, set him near your favorite sound-source, and your little buddy will perform for you all day long! USB Humping Dog It doesn’t serve any purpose, but it’s what they do. They are insatiable. And that’s all we really have to say. Harley is brown and Duke is black, and you can take your pick. Oh, and don’t worry - if the kids ask what the doggie is doing to your computer, just say, “He’s trying to jump over the computer, but he got a little stuck,” or “The computer is giving him a piggyback ride.” Either will suffice. We, of course, had to talk about live streaming. I explained to Leo that I love leaving the stream running all the time for many reasons. You never know what will happen at any given time throughout the day. You can see bloopers, chat it up with the Mods, watch me lose my patience and sanity, and even help me out when I m stuck. Leo said that I am his inspiration for his own live streaming. He said he caught what we were doing here one day, and thought to himself this is what I need to be doing! . It was great spending some time chatting one-on-one with Leo again. Keep your eyes and ears open. You never know when and where it could happen again. From : The Chris Pirillo Show
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed I ll miss my iPhone. I will no longer be using it as my primary communications device. We ve had really good times together. We ve had good conversations together, and sent many a great text message. There s nothing wrong with my iPhone. It s just not for me anymore. We ve grown apart, that s all. I m breaking up with my iPhone. It s true. I won t be using it anymore. Maybe Wicket will want it. Instead, I ll be using my iPhone 3G!!! Oh come on. You should have seen that one coming. You ve been watching me wait for the 3G to get here for how long now? I gotta tell you. I m happy with the upgrade so far. It s not a dramatic upgrade, no. My initial impressions are good. For the most part, it s a good experience. Instabilities abound, many of which have been noted on iPhone and apple-related sites and forums. The hope of the community is that Apple will be releasing a firmware update at some point in the very near future, to clear up some of the hiccups that people are experiencing. Introducing iPhone 3G. With fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store, iPhone 3G puts even more features at your fingertips. And like the original iPhone, it combines three products in one — a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod, and a breakthrough Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. iPhone 3G. It redefines what a mobile phone can do — again. Phone Make a call by tapping a name or send a text with the intelligent keyboard. iPod Enjoy music and video on a widescreen display and shop for music with a tap. Internet Browse the real web, get HTML email, and find yourself with GPS maps. What s new in the iPhone? 3G Speed 3G technology gives iPhone fast access to the Internet and email over cellular networks around the world. iPhone 3G also makes it possible to do more in more places: Surf the web, download email, get directions, and watch video — even while you’re on a call. Maps with GPS Find your location, get directions, and see traffic — all from your phone. Maps on iPhone 3G combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower location technology with the Multi-Touch interface to create the best mobile map application ever. App Store Tap into the App Store and you’ll find applications in every category, from games to business, education to entertainment, finance to health and fitness, productivity to social networking. These applications have been designed to take advantage of iPhone features such as Multi-Touch, the accelerometer, wireless, and GPS. And some are even free. You can download them wirelessly and start using them right away. There are so many more things, as well. You can check them all out for yourself on the Apple website, or in any Apple store. I m telling you. The iPhone is changing the way we communicate, work and play. If you have the 3G already, what are your initial thoughts? If you don t have one yet why not? From : The Chris Pirillo Show
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed Yes, it s Crash Bandicoot Nitro Cart 3D, which is available in the App Store for about $10.00 if you have an iPhone, of course. I have heard a lot about this, so I had to check it out. This app has been sponsored by Matt. Thanks to all of you for the iTunes gift cards! Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D is a Mario Kart-like 3D racer with Crash Bandicoot at the wheel instead of the chubby Brooklyn plumber. You unlock new characters as you collect items, but the controls are pretty much standard for iPhone racing games. The default calibration is off, leading Crash to always veer left at the neutral point even when we started up the game with the phone on a desk. This means you need to tilt the phone slightly to the right to go straight. One thing that strikes me as really good about this game is the accelerometer option. You can adjust the sensitivity, which I did. I tend to over-steer at times. You can adjust the sounds and/or music if you wish. You can choose your player, once you unlock them. The game loads quickly. The game is fun, but there s still optimization that needs to happen. It s dropping some frames, but not horribly. I don t miss having a joystick, believe it or not. It s very simple to steer and control the game characters. If you re familiar with this type of game, I think you ll fall in love with it. Train Your Brain For The Game- .mpcAudio Download. From : The Chris Pirillo Show
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed You won t believe me, especially if you ve tried to do this on any other device. You won t believe how easy it is to update the software on your iPhone. I already have over 70 apps installed on my iPhone, and the App Store has only been open for a week. When you have new messages for any app, a little number will show up in the upper right-hand corner. The App Store is where you go on your iPhone to browse and buy new applications. When you are at the App Store there is a tab for updates. The App Store will remember what apps you already have installed, and will tell you which ones have new updates. You simply enter your iTunes password, tap a button, and the app is updated. That really is all you have to do. When the phone is sync d with my desktop, it will download the latest version from the web. Then, I ll always have the latest app on my iPhone. This is why I believe that software on the iPhone is convenient, user-friendly, and a game changer. Apple has raised the bar so high over the competition in this area there is no word to describe it properly. You have to let me know what your favorite iPhone apps are. From : Podcasts & Blogs @ TalkBMC
Listen in while Peter Armstrong, corporate strategist for BMC Software, talks about the needed skills for the direction that Enterprise IT is headed. In this interview, he gives his observations on an interesting opposition he sees forming. Now that IT does not have to run as if having the lights on day to day is their only goal, and instead, running the business efficiently is their goal, what can happen with those efficiency gains? Now that people realize they can run IT more efficiently, saving money, then do they get to do lots of innovation with that money, and how do you innovate a controlled manner? So, the question Peter returns to is this: if you run IT with business goals in the forefront, then how will you resolve your priorities? Peter talks about ways to uncover the mentalities and rewards that will help move your department in the right direction as team members get out of a rut. He even describes his own perfect compensation package, and yes, a driver would be pertinent. Peter travels extensively and has plenty of great stories to go along with the workplaces that are examples of people who really "get" business service management and has a workforce that is enabled to do the same. What story goes along with his ability to recognize the Swiss flag? What's his true definition of hero? Here's a small hint, the definition of a true IT hero is a little different in this podcast than the hero described in his white paper. Take a listen and do talk back. If your experiences or "ah-ha!" moments match any of Peter's, let us know.

 From : Career Opportunities
Teaching and sharing are an important part of any career By Douglas E. Welch Listen: Teaching and sharing are an important part of any career Subscribe to Career-Op Podcast Email: Visit this group In the past, you might have been told to jealously guard the secrets to your success and only give away as much information as it took to achieve your goals. Each piece of information you had, that someone else lacked, gave you a bit more power a bit more leverage. You would tie people to you, knowing that no one person had all the answers all the secrets. This was the path to career success. The goal was to make everyone so dependent on you that they couldn t dare fire you. If you haven t already figured this out, that world is no more. Using such behaviors today is more likely to get you fired rather than build your career. Today s successful careers are made up of 2 very important parts teaching and sharing. I have found in my own career that the more information I share, the more information I give away, the more connections, the more visibility and the more money it brings back to me. In the past, you might have been able to horde information, but in today s hyper-connected world, you are but one source of information. The quality of your information matters much more than the quantity. Hording information today is seen as an anti-social and aggressive behavior that puts the success of one person above the success of everyone involved. You might be thinking, but if you give everything away, how do you make any money? The fact is, there are few people who are willing to go as deep into a project as you are. Like a doctor at a 1950 s cocktail party, people are constantly asking me technology questions. While I am more than happy to answer anything I can, I usually find that once I get beyond about 2 or 3 steps in a troubleshooting processing, they simply throw up their hands and say Oh, just come over and make it work! Unlike me, they aren t inclined to dig down into a problem in the way that is required to solve it. They have their own interests, their on projects and their own needs. By being willing to share my knowledge, though, I am able to show that I have the ability to solve their problems, which turns into a consulting call for me. If I had immediately told them my rate and tried to set up an appointment, I am sure more than half would have simply walked away. It is also important to be willing to teach those around you who want to learn. Sure, some folks just want you to fix it and really don t care how you do it. Others, though, want to watch what you are doing and learn from it. Don t see this as an effort to steal your knowledge, rather see this as an opportunity to give them the tools they need to move forward in their own work or career. The fact is, a more knowledgeable client is a benefit to you, not a detriment. If they have seen you edit the settings of their router, or simply reset it, it will be much easier to offer telephone support in the future. You won t have to step them through each step by telling them where to click or what menu to choose. You will be able to move towards a solution to their problem directly instead of wasting their time and yours. Doesn t this reduce your billable hours, though? Actually, it might, but in return you gain something far more important, You gain a deeper realtionship with the client that will last for years (if not decades, as has been the case for me) instead of someone who calls once and never comes back. Being willing to share and teach develops a deep and long-lasting relationship with your clients, peers and co-workers that will stand the test of economic downturns, layoffs and new jobs. Instead of concentrating on the one-time value of a person, you start to see their lifetime value to you, your business and your career. Teaching and sharing also establishes your credibility over time. You become the expert that everyone refers to their friends and even strangers they might meet. You become a friend and confidant that doesn t make them feel stupid when they need help. You become the teacher that we all need and want in our lives. If you want to build a career that lasts, share your knowledge and teach whenever you can. The rewards for your efforts will come back a hundredfold. From : Bwana.TV
In this video, I unbox my new iPhone 3G! Thanks to the community (jim48116 and other donations), my wife and I now are proud owners of the iPhone 3G. To get the iPhone we had to go through more than we anticipated. We called the Apple Store in our local area to make sure they had them in stock. We were pleasantly surprised to find that they had all models! When we got to the Apple Store, we were shocked to see a fairly long line to get the iPhone. After standing in line for about an hour and a half, we were told we couldn't get the iPhone from the Apple Store since I had an old business discount on my plan. Note, this was an plan that was discontinued when I got my first gen iPhone, but my account was STILL flagged as having the discount. We then went around the corner to an AT&T store, and had it promptly removed. Thanks to the nice Apple rep (Clayton Hackett @ Apple Store St Johns Town Center, YOU ROCK BUDDY), we didn't have to stand in line again. He re-processed us and we came home with our iPhones. Our initial impressions of the iPhone 3G are fairly positive. My wife instantly noticed the speed increase on the ride home. She also liked that the iPhone felt lighter. We will use these and report our findings to you all in time. Look for a full review soon. Thanks for watching!

From : The Chris Pirillo Show
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed If things look different in this video compared to others I ve done, it s because I have a new laptop stand. I m not sure if I ll use it as my primary stand, though. They re usually designed to help make your notebook more ergonomic and comfortable for people, and helps keep it properly cooled. No matter what kind of notebook you have, they tend to overheat without proper airflow. Getting some type of laptop stand is a good thing for this reason. The one I normally use is a Targus. It has a couple of fans, and a couple of USB ports. The Alto from Logitech is the one I want to talk about today. First, let s look at the features: Notebook display riser: Elevates and extends your notebook s display for viewing comfort. Relaxes you while making you more productive. Full-sized keyboard: Type faster, with less fatigue. The integrated soft palm rest adds wrist support and keeps your hands away from the hot notebook surface. One-touch hot keys: Get instant access to your digital music with media and volume controls. Additional hot keys instantly take you to your favorite applications, folders, and Web pages. Multipurpose USB hub: Use three high-speed USB 2.0 ports to connect your favorite peripherals, including cordless mice, webcams, printers, and external drives. Works with virtually any notebook: Use it with your current notebook—and your next one. Easy setup and storage: Flip it open for instant use on almost any flat surface; fold it down for easy transport and storage. I think this is a nice laptop stand, but it is really pricey. It looks good, and is really functional. It will make good office decor, for sure. I don t know. Maybe I ll grow to like it more over time. It makes my MacBook sit up entirely too high for my needs. From : The Chris Pirillo Show
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed I remember back in the day, making mix tapes for girls. What? How can you not know what mix tapes are? You took two boomboxes, two cassette tapes and made your own mix tapes full of songs. Now that we don t make those anymore, the personal touch has gone by the wayside. Sending someone a link just isn t personal. Thankfully, you can now just zip over and use PlayList. Projectplaylist.com is an information location tool similar to Google® and Yahoo!® but devoted entirely to the world of music. Our purpose is to help you find and enjoy music legally throughout the web in the same way that other search engines help you find webpages, images, and other media, but we also add a social /community twist. We make it easy for you to create playlists, share your playlists with friends, and browse playlists of others. We connect you with the coolest music on the web, and we connect people who are passionate about music. Music is burgeoning on the web. Increasingly, artists, record companies, music bloggers, music websites and music critics are uploading music files to websites that they control for promotional or other legal purposes. Our mission at Project Playlist, Inc. is to organize this rapidly growing abundance of legal music on the web for the benefit of the worldwide music community – artists, songwriters, music distributors, and listeners alike. Our view is that the more people share their individual passion for music by sharing playlists, the more music will be created, and the more the entire music industry will grow. Projectplaylist.com allows you to discover all of this free music legally because we respect the rights of copyright holders and we insist that you do as well. We pay royalties to songwriters and music publishers, and we respect the performing artist’s choice. Some performing artists make their music freely available on the web, others allow you to listen to only a few freely available songs through a promotional site, and a few would prefer that none of their music be heard on the web at all. If an artist tells us that our search engine is linking to an illegally posted song, we will immediately take down the link to that music file. It doesn t get any better than that. I can now go in, and create a playlist especially for my wife, to welcome her home from her trip. I know I missed her, and the dogs really did. From : The Chris Pirillo Show
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed When you stream your life online 24/7 like I do, you ll eventually say something that someone thinks is funny. They ll record it, and upload it somewhere like YouTube for everyone else to laugh at. I don t mind when people do that. What do you do when you want to create your own sound mixes? That s where JamGlue will come in handy. Jamglue is an online community for creating and sharing original music and audio. We let you upload as much music as you want, create mixes, and share your creations with the world! One of the coolest things about Jamglue is our web-based remixer that lets you combine and edit tracks right in your browser. Jamglue s simple Flash-based mixer works from within your browser! You don t have to be an experienced musician to make great mixes all you need is an imagination and a mouse. Click the play button to start the mix playing. While it s playing, drag some of the clips around and adjust the volume sliders. To really go nuts, add something new using the large orange button at the bottom. If you make something you like, save your mix using the Save/Save a Copy buttons at the top. You can mark mixes and tracks as favorites to give people props for creating cool music and to show off your great musical taste. You can even write your own mini-review or download the song to listen to on your mp3 player! You can embed mixes and tracks in your blog or MySpace page so that all your friends can easily listen to your favorite Jamglue music. It really is that easy. Simply upload or record your own tracks. Create an original mix, or personalize someone else s and then show it off to others. That s all there is to it. It s really addicting to sit here and become a DJ for a day, creating your own original jams! Elmore Music - New Product! Speed Learning System, Usd $94 Payout! New Products Available! From : Security Bites from CNET
To put it simply, the concept of "white listing" is to define a set of software, a set of vendors, and allow only those trusted applications or files from those vendors to run on your machine. If a file or application is not approved, it will not run. This is the opposite of how we've blocked malware from our machines in the past. In 2007, Symantec detected more than 1 million viruses, with two-thirds created within the calendar year. Loading 1 million antivirus signatures or even a percentage of that if generic signatures are used is a pretty serious undertaking. The idea here is that maybe we should only be loading signatures for the good files. So far, the idea is only being implemented in the enterprise space. Still, it's a interesting idea. On the desktop it's already being used to stop spam, so why not use white lists to block malware as well? Massachusetts-based Bit9 has created one of the largest catalogs of "known good" and "known bad" applications. Its Global Software Registry (GSR) serves as the policy enforcement center for Bit9's enterprise offerings. Recently, desktop antivirus vendor Kaspersky announced a partnership with Bit9 that will allow it to use the GSR in its upcoming desktop products in 2009. This week on the Security Bites podcast, CNET's Robert Vamosi talks with Tom Murphy, chief strategy officer for Bit9, about white listing and its potential for the future.
