Liberty Conspiracy - 8-14-09 Stephen Smith on Soda, Tariffs, Subsidies, Liberty and Prosperity

There are so many fast-moving issues popping up on the analytical RADAR screen, that it's easy to let one or two be forgotten. Right now, the American populace is focused on the push by statists to take over what is left of the hobbled insurance and health care market. But there are other issues tied to that, and we want to give them some attention. In this production, the Liberty Conspiracy takes a look at the associated push by politicians to impose a tax on "sweet" sodas, in order to "pay for" health care via gubment, and in order to curb obesity. Listen to guest Stephen Smith, founder of www.abeginnersguidetofreedom.com as he explains some of the unseen issues involved with sodas, obesity, and the government making food and drink choices for once free people. Be Seeing You!

Congress Considers Stomping Out Hidden Shoe Tax in New Stimulus Package

For more information on this and other stories, visit www.newsinfusion.com October 23rd, 2008 - As talks begin about another economic stimulus package, legislators agree that effort needs to be made to provide relief to the middle class and encourage consumer confidence. As part of that initiative, a bipartisan group in Congress are seeking to repeal most of the shoe tariff, offering billions of dollars of relief to working families. Their efforts would eliminate this depression-era tax on shoes that drives up prices. Enacted in the 1930s to protect U.S. footwear manufacturers, the shoe tariff, or tax, on imported shoes has outlived its usefulness as 99% of our shoes are made outside of the United States. The tariff serves as a de facto hidden tax on consumers, driving up the import cost for some shoes by as much as 67%.
