Female Demand and Runaway Sun are the musical guests. Audience of One is J.R. Cohen, general manager of the Forbes and NY Times acclaimed lounge/coffee bar The Coffee Groundz. The hour-long show features performances by the bands and in-depth interviews with hosts Dan Workwan and Rosa Guerrero. Female Demand is a duo that takes a different approach to the term band . Their music broadcasts a complex, intricate wave of sound to be received by the ears. Their minimalist style of rock is both ambient and reminiscent of an instrumental Devo. Runaway Sun's debut EP garnered them a Best Blues nomination in the 2009 Houston Press Music Awards and a slot at an official showcase at SXSW playing alongside GRAMMY nominee Diane Birch. The band moonlights as one of Houston's top do-gooders - playing a myriad of local charity events, including Walk Now for Autism and Empty Bowls Houston. Runaway Sun recently released their 10-song LP The Bridge. Episode 2 features Austin's The Blue Hit and Houston's own Buxton. The Blue Hit, a progressive folk trio, features Grace Rowland's angelic voice with David Moss on cello and John McGee on guitar. The precocious lyrics and the delicate instrumental arrangements are mesmerizing, and quite unlike any sound out there. Psychedelic, rock, folk fusion? We're just not sure... but it is something quite special. Buxton is a folk act based in the LaPorte/Houston area. They've played with such notable acts as Okkervil River, Akron/Family, Man Man, Great Lake Swimmers, Maria Taylor, Copeland, Colour Revolt, Anathallo, Look Mexico, Gatsbys American Dream, Statistics and Denison Witmer. Buxton also has a folk influence but that is blended with flavors of Wilco and hard rock as well. Buxton turns in a rock solid live performance filled with energy and not just a little virtuosity. The show is hosted by Rosa Guerro and Dan Workman. It is Produced by Gina Miller. Studio A engineering by John Griffin and Chris Longwood. HD video is filmed and posted by W. Ross Wells, Jarrod Gullett and Travis Johns of Zenfilm.

Live From SugarHill's July episode features solo artist Andrew Karnavas and 60s garage rock legends The Freddie Steady 5. The hour-long program includes short sets by each guest and candid interviews with Rosa Guerrero (KTRU s Mutant Hardcore show) and award-winning record producer, Dan Workman. Community guest and audience of one for Episode VI is Chris Gray, music editor for The Houston Press, a weekly publication with almost 645,000 readers and more than 2 million online hits each month. Live from SugarHill, Episode VI airs on July 2, 2009 at 7p.m. CST. This episode also brings in a new webhost and audio stream partner, OutboundMusic. Andrew Karnavas acoustic melodies are a blend of straightforward chord progressions and slow finger picking that combine elements of blues and folk. The songs are largely introspective, image-driven stories that seek to make listeners examine a man s relationships and his opinions in both pastoral and urban settings. In July 2009, Andrew will release The Bridge, a ten-song Blues Rock and Americana LP from his band Runaway Sun, and this fall, Film Noir, a thirteen-song solo debut with acoustic guitar, cello, piano and violin arrangements. The Freddie Steady 5 is classified as Tex-Pop; a package of jangly, Beatlesque pop with a Texas touch. Texas Music Hall-of-Famer Freddie Krc (rhymes with search) has played drums behind renowned singer/songwriter Jerry Jeff Walker and Roky Erickson; and been in the studio with Carole King, Pink Floyd s Roger Waters, and the Small Faces Ronnie Lane. All along, he has also been out front on his own projects and produces Jenny Wolfe and the Pack. Zenfilm is a nationally recognized film production company and HD post boutique based in Houston, TX. Rock combo Chase Hamblin and symphonic quartet Two Star Symphony. The program includes candid interviews with Rosa Guerrero and award-winning record producer, Dan Workman. Community guest and audience of one is freelance writer David A. Cobb of local music and events blog Houston Calling. Live from SugarHill is a collaborative effort between Zenfilm, OutboundMusic.com and SugarHill Recording Studios. Two Star Symphony is known as Houston s first call commissioned independent orchestra. Comprised of Jerry Ochoa (violin), Debra Brown (violin), Jo Bird (viola), and Margaret Lejeune (cello), they perform on a matched set of instruments handcrafted by Master Luthier Anton Krutz. Notable works include an original composition for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari , 24 shorts from Unseen Cinema: Experimental Treasures from the World s Leading Archives for the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and a feature-length score for Harold Loyd s film Girl Shy . In 2004, The American Ballet Theatre enlisted them for the Dominic Walsh-choreographed dance Alchemy that premiered in New York. They recently unveiled their first full-length ballet score for a production of Titus Andronicus. They won the 2009 Houston Press Music Award for Best Unclassifiable Band and have been mentioned in Spin Magazine. Chase Hamblin is a descendent of one of America s first Gypsies. The great grandson of a Vaudeville songwriter, Hamblin has clearly inherited the traits of his freewheeling elders. Born in Italy and raised throughout Europe and Southeast Asia, Hamblin grew up with an odd yet influential mix of culture, art, and music. He worked as a model and movie extra while studying at NYU before moving to Houston where he joined the critically acclaimed group Penny Royal. After the band s demise, Hamblin began work on his debut solo EP, A Fine Time, with Derek Dunivan at the helm as producer and arranger. The upbeat, yet contemplative, late 60s vibe of the album has garnered comparisons to The Beatles and The Kinks, as well as contemporaries like Elliot Smith and Grandaddy. Hamblin s live ensemble includes local heavyweights Derek Dunivan (piano), Corey Power (guitar), Geoffery Muller (bass) and Robert Ellis (drums). Episode 7 features electro-pop outfit, Glasnost and Austin pop quartet, The Sour Notes in August. The program includes short sets and candid interviews with Rosa Guerrero and award-winning record producer, Dan Workman. Community guest and 'audience of one' is freelance writer Chris Henderson, who covers Houston nightlife in 29-95.com, Houston Press, Houston Magazine and Texas Music Magazine. Live from SugarHill, Episode VII airs on August 13, 2009 at 7p.m. CST and is a collaborative effort between Zenfilm, OutboundMusic.com and SugarHill Recording Studios. Bands Das Automatic & DJ Cuba Gooding Jr. merged to form Glasnost. Fusing elements of bands such as New Order and Cut Copy while combining the energy of a live rock show, Glasnost has become known for their stellar live performances. Their sound is far from typical: driving dance beats, lush vocal arrangements and multi-layered instrumentation. Influences include MSTRKRFT, Midnight Juggernauts, Justice and Gang of Four. Their forthcoming EP, The Great Divide, is out soon. The Sour Notes are a dreamy pop band hailing from Austin. Beginning in Houston as the solo project of songwriter Jared Boulanger, it wasn't until moving to Austin that he transformed The Sour Notes into the full-fledged performance ensemble it is today. Since 2008, the band has released two full-length albums, The Meat of the Fruit and Received in Bitterness, as well as a 7" single. They've toured nationally and appeared on Austin's KVRX-FM program 'Local Live'. Zenfilm is a nationally recognized film production company and HD post boutique based in Houston, TX. Beginning the legacy in 1946, musician Harry Choates, with producer Bill Quinn, laid tracks for the Cajun classic "Jole Blon" for Gold Star Records. Blues icon Lightnin' Hopkins recorded soon thereafter. In the 1950's the studio hosted Pappy Dailey's D label, George Jones cut "Why Baby Why?" and the Big Bopper recorded "Chantilly Lace." Willie Nelson, Bobby Bland and Arnett Cobb recorded sessions. In 1960s, the Sir Douglas Quintet tracked "She's About a Mover." The mid-1970s introduced Crazy Cajun producer Huey P. Meaux and his work with Freddy Fender and Clifton Chenier. Since the 1980s, SugarHill has hosted Tejano artist Little Joe, country great Johnny Bush, and urban powerhouse Beyonc?.
