Sex 180 - Jun 17th
from For Faith & Family June 17, 2008
Richard Land You say in Sex 180, that sex is a heart issue. Unpack that for us Chip Ingram Well, I think, again, if we got a bunch of parents in here and they all really loved God, and a few pastors in here, I think, unconsciously, under the radar, would be, How to we make sure our kids don t have sex, don t drink too much alcohol, and don t do drugs, and we make it though this horrendous little period of life? It s an unconscious, defensive posture. But that unconscious question drives people to external behaviors that we want to prevent, and lot of tools and techniques to do that. They [teens] are sexual beings. They re going to be attracted. It is an issue of the heart. In other words, if they could understand that you are made a sexual being, God made you a sexual being, these desires are not only good and right, but there s a right way, the right time. AND you are loved by God and he has a purpose for your life, not to not do certain things, but to be a revolutionary in your culture, to free other people. Because intimacy is so great, second-rate sex is so bad. And so it s a positive message and that starts with a heart understanding that God s not trying to keep something good from me. He s trying to give you the very best. Land Chip, bottom line: Why should a young person wait until marriage to have sex? Ingram Because you are so valuable. And you are so loved. And your future is so important. And not just your future, but your right now experience of intimacy and life and joy and fellowship, first with God, then with other people, demands purity as a prerequisite for experiencing the very best. You deserve the very best. And to have sex before marriage will short circuit your relationship with God. It will develop a series of self hatred and shame in your heart, and it will destroy and limit what you can have with another human being. And you matter too much. You re loved too much. And today, this day, regardless of where you have ever been, you can be forgiven. You can put your past being you, God can give you a new path. And that s what he wants to do for everyone.

Celebrate Recovery - Nov 23rd
from For Faith & Family November 23, 2007
he world is full of unhappy people. As Christians we are taught and believe that true happiness can only be found in Jesus Christ. But if we are truly honest, we have to admit that sometimes even believers struggle in areas of their lives, and happiness is just as elusive for them. What then is the solution? Can true happiness ever be found? God cares about our happiness. Jesus, in one of his best known public discourses-the Sermon on the Mount-told us what it takes to be happy. That discourse has come to be known as the Beatitudes, and every statement begins with, Happy is he. . . Today s guests have taken these words of Jesus to heart. Rick Warren is the Senior Pastor of Saddleback Valley Community Church. He did an in depth study of the Beatitudes and developed 8 principles that it teaches people about how to be happy. He preached an 8 week series on these principles to his entire congregation back in 1993 which he titled, The Road to Recovery. Our next guest is John Baker. He is presently Pastor of Ministry at Saddleback, but back when Pastor Rick was first preaching this series, he was, despite much success in his career, an unhappy, nominal Christian a functioning alcoholic whose marriage was in ruin and whose life was a mess. Under Rick s preaching, John took these principles from the Beatitudes to heart and incorporated them into his life. It worked. Out of this victory came a vision to help other unhappy people-even unhappy Christians-find the success he had found in following the principles in God s word. That vision resulted the development of a program called Celebrate Recovery. Rick Warren has said, God never wastes a hurt. John Baker is truly a living, breathing, walking talking proof of that. There is no more persuasive evidence of the power of God than a dramatically changed life. God not only helps us overcome the hurts and pain in our lives, but He uses them to help bring recovery to others and glory to Himself. John Baker is only one of thousands who have discovered and yielded to the life-changing power of Jesus Christ and found true happiness. His life is a testament to the reality of hope for anyone who is hurting.
