Been really excited to share this! Subdrive homey Terror Dactel and our newly anointed house MC, Charlie Tippie, teamed up to rework Charlie s original minimal hip-hop tune Vocaloid (originally produced by Ming of Ming FS). A departure from Terror s recent work, the tune actually flips back to his original hip-hop production and is a hint of what s to come from these two artists. We posted a Selektor mix a while back from the Chrome Kids, a group of DJs and producers from the UK pushing everything bass. The Beetroots are back and are about to drop their debut full-length on DIM MAK on September 8th. It s going to have a lot of older tunes including Butter, Warp 1.9, but also features guest appearances by Justin Pearson (The Locust, Head Wound City), Ed Banger artist Vicarious Bliss, and many more. Did liquid funk ever die? Not according to Philadelphia-native Ross D whose new tune, The 215 , taken from his upcoming album Musical D-Lite, evokes the sounds of High Contrast, Makoto, and Hospital Records. Ross D really shines because the tunes sound natural and never forced. I was in DC for the majority of last week and went out a few times in my area. Even though I m a native of the area, I don t know what s going on all the time so I asked Blisspop headman Will Eastman to point me in the right direction. He recommended Level Up, a new party at Asylum in Adams Morgan (which if you re in town, check out). Not knowing who was spinning, it was a great surprise to find and finally meet Nouveau Riche s own Nacey behind the decks. With that said, you have to have to download his latest tune Lose Your Love off his new EP with crew-mate Starks. The track is a funky, disco-influenced, Bmore-beat driven dance number that will, without a doubt, have you bobbing your head and moving your feet the moment the first beat drops. To give you a sense of the record, we ve got the The Golden Filter s Favourite Things to share with you. It s a grooving, shiny, tune with a literal list of things that the mysterious singer digs. "Hooligans" is topping the UK DMC charts at #1, so Don decided to share two more remixes with us, both from bass-heavy masters. First off, famed Dutch dnb production crew Noisia decided to mix things up and gave "Hooligans" their own take on the tune, but with a twist on electro. I have to hand it to Noisia, they've broken out of the stigma of being within one genre, and they once again prove that they are one of the best production teams out there. This tune will be playing all over very soon. Secondly, we've got a dubstep cut from Wire, Example's tour DJ. It's hard, nasty, grimey will make your brain rollover in its skull. It works really well with the original tune, but is a lot nastier than Doorly's take (which is fantastic as well). I love supporting folks from my hometown, especially when they're actually really talented. DC-based producer/dj Nacey hit us up with his remix of Major Lazer's "Hold the Line". If you don't know Nacey, he's part of the hot Nouveau Riche crew with Gavin Holland and Steve Starks. Did you know über-talented illustrator McBess has a band called The Dead Pirates with fellow designer Simon? Well, the two teamed up with superhouse the Mill and created this music video for their band. The result is a fantastic piece done in McBess's signature drawing-style, all in black and white, and with a fun little story.
