Kevin, Joe and Brit returned back from New York, but Taylor stayed there. She paid for a hotel room each night. She couldn't think straight. It was over, officially. She gave him a try, she did. But he didn't listen. She was ready for everything he threw at her. No, she couldn't take it anymore. Sure, she would be their guitarist. But she wouldn't have the passion that she usually did. She was getting older, approaching a quarter of a century old. Her twenty first birthday was coming in three days. She didn't want to spend it in misery, hung up over Kevin. She found ciggerette boxes littered everywhere. Disgusted, she threw them out. She dyed her hair black, and straightened it everyday. She gained weight. She ruined her life. Over in New Jersey, things were not the same. Kevin wouldn't talk to anybody, but he didn't hang himself up. He still went out. He dressed in bright colours. He didn't smoke. No, he couldn't! Each day, he read and read books about understanding, wasting hundreds of dollars learning about the meaning of life. He went to workshops about medical information. Finally, after three days, it was Valentines day, and Taylor's birthday. Kevin knew all that he could. He stayed up all night researching and reading. He took his car and drove to New York city. He rented out a concert hall. He set up everything he could to make it. Finally, he sent a telegram to Taylor. Taylor received the telegram. Taylor: (Reading) Meet me at the concert hall. Anonymous. She walked to the concert hall, opened the door, and was met by a blast of wind. Great way to spend my birthday, thought Taylor. She hadn't done anything all day. Slowly, she walked down the aisles of seats and onto the stage. She saw nothing. Taylor: Great…. She hopped off the stage and began to walk up the aisles of seats. A bright red flash of light coming from behind her stopped her in her tracks. She turned around and saw a platform coming down from the sky. One person stood in the middle, clutching a guitar. They started to strum, and a melody of just strumming filled the empty hall. Taylor started to tap her foot. But she stopped when she saw the background of the screen. The Jonas Brothers emblem. She started to run for the door, but it was locked. She stood on the top of chairs and jumped as high as she could, each time landing with a bang. She finally jumped high enough and just barely grabbed the edge of a balcony. She slowly inched her way towards a fire exit. She pressed the red button and the door opened. She jumped onto it and scrambled down the ladder. When she finally had her feet on the pavement, she cried and cried and cried. ???: Miss, what's wrong? Taylor: It's my birthday today.. and my ex-boyfriend tried to dupe me into getting back together with him. ???: Seems like a crappy way to spend your birthday. Taylor: It is… Nobody understands. I broke up with him because he didn't understand me at all. ???: Maybe you should give him another chance. He would probably be better. Taylor: I tried once. I can't do it again. ???: Maybe you can. Taylor: Listen, sir, I don't know who you are or why I'm talking to you. You're a stranger. I have to go. The person softly kisses her. ???: Not now. Taylor: Kevin? Kevin: Yeah. (Takes off his hat) Taylor: Then… who was playing the guitar? Kevin: That was Nick. Taylor: You guys look so much alike… Kevin: I tricked you then, huh? Taylor: Yeah. Kevin: Is everything ok, then? Taylor: (Gets up) No. I can't trust you. Kevin: (Gets up) You can. I've been studying nonstop for the past three days. Taylor: Prove yourself. Kevin takes out the ring from his front pocket. There were no lighters, no ciggerettes. Point one. Dangling it from his pinkie, he started to recite everything about hypothermia. Point two. He recited tons and tons of things about medical stuff. Point three. He explained how sorry he was. Point four. He got down on his knee and slid the ring on her finger. Point five. Taylor started to cry and cry. Kevin pulled her into a tight hug. Taylor breathed in. He wasn't wearing his normal cologne. Instead, she smelled a familiar scent of pine and chocolate. Taylor: Lacoste men? Kevin: I think that I would give it a try. Taylor: Stick with the old one. Kevin: Something wrong? Taylor: Yeah… Kevin: Tell me. Taylor: My dad always wore this before… Kevin: Before what? Taylor: Before he died. He died just before we met, in an airplane crash. Brit and Kylee bought the tickets to soothe my pain, and it worked.
