Importing from a VCR If you would like to import video from a VCR or other, older analog video device, you will need to use a video converter or capture device to capture the footage to a file on the computer's hard disk or transfer the footage from the VCR to a DV or HDV camcorder. Using a DV or HDV camcorder With a DV or HDV camera, you may be able to connect your VCR to the camera and rerecord the footage to a DV tape in the camera. You can then import the footage from the tape in the DV camera as you normally would in iMovie. Alternatively, some cameras can be placed in a "bridge" mode where the analog input from the VCR can be streamed live from the camera over the FireWire connection. Consult the documentation which came with your DV camera for more information.

Getting the pictures Your images are the meat of the video. Good pictures compel viewers attention and are the proof of your story. Good video is a lot of mental work. Try not to rush. Don t be afraid to stop an interview or move to a new position to get a better picture. Since this is for the Web, remember your image will be quite small. This means you need to fill up your frame. Don t have the subject off in the distance. Keep your composition simple and uncluttered. Get your camera in close to the subject -- don t shoot from across the room. Move the camera to follow action or reveal elements. Otherwise, keep your shot steady. Let the action leave the video frame to give you transition points let subject get up out of the chair or dance out of the picture.

A brief trip into a rather surreal painting I did in 1997. I have my own secret story about it but it's up to you to put any interpretation you wish on it. The soundtrack is, again, composed by me in Garage Band.
