Dennis Basso's Spring 2009 collection

Inspired by sun, sea, exclusive resorts and boho looks of the early-1970s, Dennis Basso's Spring 2009 collection hit the runway yesterday at Fashion Week. Basso, who has worked with fur for 25 years, included broadtail in the collection. Broadtail is the fur of stillborn lambs, according to the Fur Information Council of America; the Humane Society of the United States says it's the fur of fetal lambs. Golf Supports Our Troops fundraiser

Some 80 golfers, pluse several disabled veterans who are recovering at the Walter Reade Army Medical Center in Washington D.C., were at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus on Monday for a tournament benefitting Golf Supports Our Troops, a Madison based non-profit that has been buying golf equipment and training systems for V.A. hospitals all around the country. Many of the hospitals have been using the sport as part of rehabilitation for returning troops who were injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Video by Paula Saha/The Star-Ledger)

Historians are upset by the demolition, but county officials argue the state let it deteriorate so badly that it was beyond repair. Eventually a new Morris County park will be on the grounds. New Jersey's famous fruit is given the star treatment at the annual Great Tomato Tasting at the 390-acre research farm in Pittstown, Hunterdon County. Getting good on a scooter

Frank Coler is a really good scooter rider. The 19-year-old from Clark shot some video of himself riding, sent it to Fuzion scooters, and snagged a sponsorship deal. Fuzion put him in some of their tv commercials and Frank now rides in demonstrations and competitions. He hopes Fuzion creates a pro team, which would make scootering a full time job for him. Flying in a B-17 bomber

The Experimental Aircraft Association has a fully restored B-17 bomber, "Aluminum Overcast," at the Essex County Airport through Sunday for tours and rides. Bob Wilcox, a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force who served in World War II, took a flight in it yesterday with Christopher Gomez, his grandson. Wilcox recalled when he rode a B-17 through a storm more than 60 years ago, en route to Washington State from Texas. The restored plane will also be at Trenton-Mercer Airport Tuesday and Wednesday. Waiting to audition for American Idol

Registration opened at the Izod Center for the next season of American Idol Sunday morning. Auditioners were able to pick up a wristband and will return on Tuesday morning for the actual audition. Registration is open 24 hours a day until Tuesday August 19th. Paul Marturano, of New Hope PA, was one of the people getting a wristband.
