Big Band Chronology (Oct 31 - Nov 6)

Big Band Chronology (Oct 31 - Nov 6)

from The Palomar on October 29, 2009
Duration: 0
Oct 31 Stardust was first recorded as an up-tempo instrumental by Hoagy Carmichael in 1927. The band which consisted of the Emil Seidel Orchestra and the Dorsey brothers appeared on the record label as Hoagy Carmichael and His Pals. In 1929, Mitchell Parish wrote the lyrics for the piece. Although a slow version of the song was recorded in 1928, it wasn't until Isham Jones recorded it on May 16, 1930 that it became a ballad. Stardust - performed by Glenn Miller, Spanky and Her Gang, and Bobby Byrne Nov 2 Trumpeter and bandleader, Bunny Berigan was born in Hilbert Wisconsin, 1908. In the early 1930's, he played with Fred Rich, FreddyMartin , Ben Selvin, Paul Whiteman, Abe Lyman, the Dorsey Brothers, and Glenn Miller's earliest recording dae. In 1935, Berigan joined Benny Goodman's orchestra, and was with Goodman at the Palomar Ballroom gig which is considered the start of the swing era. Berigan left Goodman to spend some time with Tommy Dorsey's orchestra; his solo on the Dorsey hit "Marie" became one of his signature performances. In 1937, Berigan assembled a band to record under his name, picking the then-little known Ira Gershwin/Vernon Duke composition I Can't Get Started. Berigan's business troubles drove him to declare bankruptcy in 1940 and re-join Tommy Dorsey for a brief period before leaving to form a new small group to play mostly one-night stands. Arranger and composer, Johnny Richards was born Juan Ricardo Cascales,in Querétaro, Mexico, 1911. He arranged for Stan Kenton in the 1950's. Kareena Kapoor turns truly professional

Kareena Kapoor turns truly professional

from VidzShare on October 13, 2009

Gone are the days when Kareenas attitude and arrogance made the show organizers sweat with anxiety. Now she is improved immensely and maybe even realized that the only way one can survive in Bollywood is by being strictly professional. Recently she performed at a dance concert in Ahmedabad for the promotion of producer Vashu Bhagnanis upcoming film Kal Kisne Dekha in which his son-Jackky will make his Bollywood debut. Kareena said that it was an honor to be able to do something for good friend, Vashuji who she worked for in her first hit film Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. She said that she performed in the dance concert with Jackky as a gesture of wishing him all the best for the success of his Debut film. You will be glad to hear that not only is Bebo a true friend but has also matured over the years. Incidentally, at the concert the lights of her green room were not working properly but Kareena did not make a fuss about it and agreed to do her makeup in the washroom! Yes, Kareena is now not only a good actress but also a good human being.

Stardust : Music sounds better with you (HQ)

Stardust was a one-time musical collaborative effort consisting of producers Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe and vocalist Benjamin Diamond. History The short-lived group released the popular club track titled Music Sounds Better with You in 1998. The song, which is based around a sample from Fate by Chaka Khan, was recorded in Paris by Daft House productions, of which Bangalter, one half of the popular French house duo Daft Punk, is based. The song was conceived in Rex Club, Paris, where the trio were playing a live set. Bangalter and Braxe created the instrumental, which Diamond instinctively sang the title words over. The next day they laid down the track in the studio, adding the Chaka Khan sample. The three members of the band parted ways soon after the single's chart run. Diamond and Braxe pursued solo careers, and Bangalter, along with his usual partner Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, went on to release the second Daft Punk album, Discovery. The video for the song was directed by the acclaimed Michel Gondry.
